The new DLC content should allow us to upgrade Legendaries as well if we so choose.
Some people defend this with "oh, only EXOTICS need this treatment because theyre "special".... frankly I feel that's ridiculous. Heck, half of my exotics are shitty excuses for weapons compared to say, my Fatebringer. Go try out Universal Remote and tell me that it's a better gun than my Found Verdict. I consider "special" in this case to be code for "useful." And most of my exotics arent that damn useful. And I've got loads of the stupid things. So why only give THEM an upgrade option?
Yes, expansions are meant to give you superior gear so you can keep leveling up and getting better. But plenty of games that do this (like Wow), allow you more time than THREE -blam!-ING MONTHS to enjoy the new gear before they upgrade you again. The problem THIS game is facing is that the game will quickly become stale if they dont do these expansions soon, as there wasnt a ton of "fun" re-playable content to begin with. As a result theyre giving us these expansions quicker than they ought to be given for a game with this type of Grind. The purpose of giving us upgradeable exotics is doubtless to help mitigate that major flaw in the plan.
And I DO like the upgradeable exotics, however I believe they need to do the same for legendaries in general or at the least, raid legendaries. They could pull it off, and even if they made the cost for doing so extremely high (for example, salvaging an exotic to do so), I'd be more than willing to pay that price to continue using the guns I consider to be more valuable.
There's also something else I would like to address: Some of the detractors from this idea give the reason that if they make our old gear viable, then there wont be any purpose to getting the new gear. I personally believe this concern is unjustified. Destiny is a fun game, but it is already -severely- lacking in variety, especially at higher light levels. I think that by giving us the option to bring our old legendaries into the future, they would only be helping to alleviate this problem of variety. I'd also like to point out that myself, and the large majority of the supporters of this change are not only willing, but EXCITED to get the new gear as well! Just because we would have incentive to use the old does NOT mean we wouldnt want the new. I want as many options as I can get in this game and I believe most of you can agree with that. But without some assurance that our time put into the game hasnt been a waste, there's no reason to use ANY of it, Old OR New.
I'd also like to include this snippet I wrote in another thread, as I think it applies here:
I guess my main problem is that the raid weapons are not only meant to be all-around better than other legendaries, but they ALSO seem to be superior to many of my exotics.
For example: I have a fully upgraded Hawkmoon. And I have a Fatebringer. I've used both and to my surprise, I've found the Fatebringer to be a much more competent weapon for me, with superior perks and usability for my playstyle. And yet Hawkmoon is now getting buffed, but ONLY in damage apparently, whereas my Fatebringer will fall behind, and ONLY because of the damage it can do and seemingly nothing else. My fatebringer is still a far superior gun to me, but I'll be forced to use Hawkmoon simply because it will be much more powerful damage-wise. And I find that unacceptable.
Also, anyone interested should check out this thread by Olympicwolf, as it outlines a VERY cool idea on how this dilemma could be solved. The link is here!: http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/82251810/0/0

1 ReplyI agree and disagree. I think it's a decent idea, but it shouldn't be easy. I think I'd have an idea for it. Make a resource item that raises any pre-DLC legendary instantly to the current damage, without a need to re-level the weapon. Make the resource a hard mode Atheon drop only, and give it a rarity similar to the Vex. This creates a reason to continue doing Hard Mode Raid.
