Laterally you are wrong longevity increases profit and player bases. Players feel committed and purchase the expansions to continue the experience. Also majority profit comes from the first month the game is released its a burst profit moto after the first month new copies sales fall off. Due to in part of used game stores since all sale from them are solely profit for that individuals company and with the mentality of I can save a buck ppl get the used game. With longevity it allows for Micro-transactions(external economy) for cosmetics rotated out correctly followed by an internal economy for older cosmetics in fact boosts player retention and profit. Followed by tournaments and give aways. You build a long term community influencing young consumers and building empire. When a player feels like they are part of something bigger that spreads to others increasing player base and in turn increasing sales
