I don't normally make posts commenting on these matters but this time I had to because I really want to know what is going on. Hopefully someone can help me understand.
Okay, so the link above from IGN states, "The Dark Below, will be available on December 9 for $19.99 / £19.99 as a standalone purchase, or as part of the $34.99 / £34.99 Season pass which also offers the second expansion, House of Wolves."
Now, if The Dark Below costs $19.99 (US Dollars) in the UK it should cost £12.40 (Pound Sterling) according to the current exchange rate. Pricing it at $19 and £19 means it's more expensive to buy it in the UK. For example, If I take £12.40 with me to the USA right now and buy The Dark Below while I'm there for $19.99 I will have spent exactly £12.40 on that purchase. However, if I buy the same DLC from the UK I will be paying £19.99 (that's £7.59 more).
Why is the price of the DLC not following the exchange rate?
I would actually have considered buying the DLC at around £12 because that would be a reasonable price for expansion content. But £19.99 is:
a) Way too much for DLC. I can buy a brand new copy of Watchdogs on PS3 for that exact amount (http://www.amazon.co.uk/UBI-Soft-300055079-Watch-Dogs/dp/B00844PENW)
b) Not a fair price compared to the $19.99 US Dollars it is being sold for in America.
I am genuinely stunned as to why it isn't £12.40 over here in the UK as that is (currently) the correct conversion for $19.99. Ever other game/DLC I have played was priced accordingly in pounds equivalent to dollars. Destiny (PS3) itself was priced £40/$60 on release and still conforms to the exchange rates.
Why does Destiny's DLC want to rip off UK gamers?

2 RepliesIts to do with tax etc. When you look at average wage in UK and US it actually equates to the same %of a typical monthly pay packet. The math was done a few weeks back...cant find the post now unfortunately.
