The new DLC content should allow us to upgrade Legendaries as well if we so choose.
Some people defend this with "oh, only EXOTICS need this treatment because theyre "special".... frankly I feel that's ridiculous. Heck, half of my exotics are shitty excuses for weapons compared to say, my Fatebringer. Go try out Universal Remote and tell me that it's a better gun than my Found Verdict. I consider "special" in this case to be code for "useful." And most of my exotics arent that damn useful. And I've got loads of the stupid things. So why only give THEM an upgrade option?
Yes, expansions are meant to give you superior gear so you can keep leveling up and getting better. But plenty of games that do this (like Wow), allow you more time than THREE -blam!-ING MONTHS to enjoy the new gear before they upgrade you again. The problem THIS game is facing is that the game will quickly become stale if they dont do these expansions soon, as there wasnt a ton of "fun" re-playable content to begin with. As a result theyre giving us these expansions quicker than they ought to be given for a game with this type of Grind. The purpose of giving us upgradeable exotics is doubtless to help mitigate that major flaw in the plan.
And I DO like the upgradeable exotics, however I believe they need to do the same for legendaries in general or at the least, raid legendaries. They could pull it off, and even if they made the cost for doing so extremely high (for example, salvaging an exotic to do so), I'd be more than willing to pay that price to continue using the guns I consider to be more valuable.
There's also something else I would like to address: Some of the detractors from this idea give the reason that if they make our old gear viable, then there wont be any purpose to getting the new gear. I personally believe this concern is unjustified. Destiny is a fun game, but it is already -severely- lacking in variety, especially at higher light levels. I think that by giving us the option to bring our old legendaries into the future, they would only be helping to alleviate this problem of variety. I'd also like to point out that myself, and the large majority of the supporters of this change are not only willing, but EXCITED to get the new gear as well! Just because we would have incentive to use the old does NOT mean we wouldnt want the new. I want as many options as I can get in this game and I believe most of you can agree with that. But without some assurance that our time put into the game hasnt been a waste, there's no reason to use ANY of it, Old OR New.
I'd also like to include this snippet I wrote in another thread, as I think it applies here:
I guess my main problem is that the raid weapons are not only meant to be all-around better than other legendaries, but they ALSO seem to be superior to many of my exotics.
For example: I have a fully upgraded Hawkmoon. And I have a Fatebringer. I've used both and to my surprise, I've found the Fatebringer to be a much more competent weapon for me, with superior perks and usability for my playstyle. And yet Hawkmoon is now getting buffed, but ONLY in damage apparently, whereas my Fatebringer will fall behind, and ONLY because of the damage it can do and seemingly nothing else. My fatebringer is still a far superior gun to me, but I'll be forced to use Hawkmoon simply because it will be much more powerful damage-wise. And I find that unacceptable.
Also, anyone interested should check out this thread by Olympicwolf, as it outlines a VERY cool idea on how this dilemma could be solved. The link is here!: http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/82251810/0/0

I mostly agree. I think the lack of gear variety in this game is the only bit that disappoints me. Allowing upgrades to legendaries would allow them to keep expanding the list of "good" weapons and armour rather than starting almost afresh each expansion. I'd be happy if my VoG weapons were upgradeable to 322 say. Leave a gap to make the brand new weapons slightly better by all means. Ditto armour. Up it to light 35 so people can get to 31 with old gear while they wait for new to drop. Over time this would create much more variety of equipment than what I see at the moment.

my vision of confluence from vog still only max's at 300 however im still gonna invest the shard's on it, i fought hard on the raid and im hoping bungie's gonna patch my gun as well as my armour. It looks way too cool to swap for a vanguard jacket! I go to work so it took me way too long to get into raids when my friends were on. So BUNGIE please reward me for the little spare time i do have!!!!PATCH OUR LEGENDARY'S!
-
1 ReplyI heard some where they were planning a lv 32 for vog so the raid weapons would need a buff to match the level, right now they are good for just lv 30 stuff.

Im right there with you! 100 percent. Ive dismantled a few exotic weapons Cuz they were just shit, but I've never dismantled a legendary one.
-
I think should just allow the raid legendary weapons to be upgraded and not the vendor weapons.
-
2 RepliesNeeds to happen!!!

9 RepliesDo we know yet if the old Legendaries drop with better stats? Or are all engrams going to give you new leg only?
-
1 ReplyI like the idea because I'd rather not lose my -RYL from the vanguard (FireFly rocks!). But, whatever, I guess.
-
3 RepliesHaving two 29 toons and not a single exotic, I agree. I got most of my weapons right before the dlc launch which were rendered inferior.

Edited by TkoR Demon: 12/15/2014 9:02:22 PMLong story short: they NEEDED to allow exotics to upgrade because there are maybe 4 new exotics weapons in the whole DLC; they would ruin the whole tier if all old exotics were worse than 4 new ones. The legendaries on the other hand are simple to reskin/rehash, and give them out "new". Your old legendaries are still solid to level 30, which is still the majority of this game, DLC included. The new raid is the only area where you will "need" higher level stuff, and the new raid weapons are what you'll want for the that task anyway. While the raid weapons are good, they mostly benefit nightfall, and the raid itself. TL;DR: If you liked the cycle of "finish raid to get weapons to finish raid...", you're in luck, you get to do it again.

1 ReplyI agree and disagree. I think it's a decent idea, but it shouldn't be easy. I think I'd have an idea for it. Make a resource item that raises any pre-DLC legendary instantly to the current damage, without a need to re-level the weapon. Make the resource a hard mode Atheon drop only, and give it a rarity similar to the Vex. This creates a reason to continue doing Hard Mode Raid.

13 RepliesHonestly give me any legendary weapon and I'll do work with it. My philosophy is that if it has bullets, that's good enough for me
-
2 RepliesI would also like the ability to upgrade my legendaries. That way I have a choice if the new gun is better to move on.

6 RepliesThe dlc has had the release dates set before the game was released. You make it sound as if they willingly set the dlc for three months after once they figured out people were getting tired of the older content. That being said, time for my two main points/criticisms of this idea. First and foremost, I STILL go to my Visions of Confluence scout rifle. The thing is a literal beast even after the new weapons are released. If weapons still remain viable after the dlc is released, why do they need buffed, or upgeaded? My second criticism is that if they kept upgrading previous raid gear, as you suppose they should, then there'd be no reason go buy NEW gear and people would complain that there's either no new gear worth buying, or there's nothing for them to use their marks/materials/exp on, meaning it would be an overall worse experience than starting over with new gear.

With the Iron Banner 2.0 they let you re-buff the perks maybe during this next IB it should also re align the damage to the new set up as well so that we don't have to replace everything to stay uptodate
-
9 RepliesI agree! I want to level up my The Calling scout rifle further. This gun with its perks is just brilliant. The only exotic primary I want is hard light. Otherwise let me upgrade the calling and I'll use gjallahorn once I've got it. Super good advice is crap!

Fatebringer is hands down the best PvE hand cannon
-
5 RepliesHrmmm my fatebringer still out performs every 331 weapon I've seen.

Bump.

1 ReplyEdited by GalvatronVTS: 12/15/2014 7:04:04 AMThat's been my biggest gripe about this DLC and the changes. THREE -blam!-ING MONTHS. Are you kidding me? So after beating our head against RNG to get what we wanted and really like you're going to force us to throw it aside to do it all over again, and again, and again, and again. Then what's the point in playing? Rather than spend twenty bucks on a sorry ass excuse for DLC I went out and dropped damn near two hundred on three new games. None of which these two companies touched. Why? Because these games offer a shit ton more than Destiny does right now. After this stunt I only play it now and then to PvP or help friends when they run VoG. I'm not busting my ass again just to have Bungivision shit on it. It would be nice to upgrade raid legendary's at least. It's would be a nod towards those who've been playing since release, sure we have to spend some things to do that but all of our work would be relevant. We wouldn't be bitching when someone who just picked up the game can get to our level FASTER than it took us. Yeah. I'm done. Hope they do something for people who love Fatebringer though, I never got it but I heard it's really awesome.
-
I agree 100%
-
3 RepliesNo, it's fine. If these weapons were upgradable then there would be no reason to strive for better items. This is how games like this work. New expansions come out, gear levels are raised, as is difficulty levels, and only top tier (exotics) weapons are upgradable (if we're lucky)
-
Exotic version of Kvotsov anyone?
-
4 RepliesOnly people really complaining about upgrading legendaries are the ones with fatebringer. So you can't one shot every enemy u kill and they don't explode killing 5 more enemies. Get good scrub Jk bruh I'm jealous I never got the fatebringer. It looked like a lot of fun and it would be awesome to see a 2.0 version.
