The problem with Bungie's claim that your weapons won't become obsolete.

Here's the issue with Bungie saying "you existing Legendaries won't become obsolete:
In standard Crucible, your favorite Legendary items won't miss a step.
That's DeeJ's entire quote from the thread that this one was based off of. There's the problem with the weekly update and Bungie making that claim that our current weapons are still viable. That's just the Crucible, DeeJ. That's a bit misleading as well.
ob·so·lete adj. 1. No longer in use: an obsolete word. 2. Outmoded in design, style, or construction: an obsolete locomotive.
Many, many of your players came to Destiny for the PvE. On the PvE side, the new damage max is 323 damage. Current Legendary weapons will only ever hit 300 max damage. So, following the bell curve associated with base damage over time, critical hits, and damage modifiers (such as elemental damage); your Vault of Glass Legendary weapons will no longer be as efficient nor will they be the "best weapon" to use. That's the text-book definition of obsolete. While at the beginning of the DLC, sure your VoG Legendary equipment might be sufficient, albeit with more shots needed to kill a target. But in the new Raid which is set at level 30 for Normal mode, those weapons are going to seem like you're firing harsh language at your enemies rather than ammunition. We are forced to upgrade to keep our characters relevant to the growing challenges. However; the Raid weapons from the Vault of Glass were supposed to be some sort of special version of Legendary weapon. That's why they come with the best Perks that work in harmony together, and elemental damage on Primary Legendary weapons. If the Vault is supposed to be one of the hardest challenges in the game (and it was), and the weapons you can only receive from the Vault are supposed to be some of the best weapons in the game (and they are); then why not allow us to carry those Vault of Glass weapons throughout each new DLC, and also give those Raid weapons the ability to be upgraded. They are, after all; a special type of weapon/armor that separates them from other Legendary equipment, allowing vault of Glass weapons and armors to be upgraded to the new maximum only makes sense. This should be added in quickly.

  • The problem with Bungie's comments about weapons not becoming obsolete is that they're lying. 300 vs 331 max damage means they're 9.4% less effective than the others. That's a significant difference. Further, the fact that none of them are upgradable means all my time upgrading them is basically wasted. Even exotics aren't upgradable, only able to be exchanged for their new more powerful versions. Throw into that mess the Tuesday update which introduced exotic shards, followed by the Wednesday update that basically said if you'd used a shard they put out on Tuesday, then it was completely wasted for any sense of the upgrade to the weapon. The dishonesty and disrespect is clear. Bungie doesn't care about you as a player and they don't care about your time in the game. Maybe they'll care about not seeing another dollar out of me. But probably not. There are too many people who don't support the notion of corporations acting in good faith and just shrug their shoulders and say 'it's just a game'. It's nothing to do with the game. It has to do with the fact that they're being deceptive. Worth a read: http://www.polygon.com/2014/12/15/7393695/destiny-dark-below-punishing-hardcore

    • Although it won't do as much damage as DLC weapons, I can't part with my Fatebringer so I'll be taking the damage loss just to keep using it

      • You really should've added Iron Banner nonsense in here too. It really would've given your post much more depth.

It seems you don't understand how the attack works. The attack vaue is not the damage output. More of a level of damage. So yes all new legendaries are higher level. But nothing outside the new raid is above 30. So a maxed fatebringer will be just as effective against level 30 enemies as a vanguard hand cannon. Only inside CE will those extra bits of damage even make a difference. Plenty of people still run CE with VoG weapons. I know I will. Those thralls will hate my fatebringer!

        • Another thing that concerns me is the Iron Banner. Basically when everyone is level 32 from dlc raid gear and the iron banner rolls around, what's going to happen to people who haven't purchased the dlc? They won't be at the max level. So automatically they will be at a disadvantage. While the iron banner is not a main feature of the game, you'll basically have to pay money to be able to compete against players of equal skill. I don't know why but that just kinda bugs me. Even though I have a season pass I still don't like it.

If VoG weapons were upgradable, why would you put the effort into Crota's End? To me thats a cop-out if Bungie did that. Allowing the players to continually use the same weapons would get stale. Exotics are another story but Legendary weapons should come and go. You shouldn't be able to obtain the best weapons for the foreseeable future of Destiny from the first 3 months. That's lazy game design.

            • The only place 300 attack weapons are sub-optimal is in the raid. Everything else is lv 30 or below, so 300 atk provides max damage.

Why are you people still talking to this bobble head??? he has squat of say, except hey they want this or that.... He does not fight or urge squat.... The activision rep in every meeting is either making the calls or going back and getting them made by someone else.... So long as you are in the pre-dlc maps those weapons are fine, same as nightfall and weeklies... RAIDS and new dlc missions/maps - they are yes not as good as the post-dlc.

I thought the attack rating didn't matter in standard crucible? I was under the impression it was more about range, impact, reload, stability, and rate of fire. I don't understand this post. DeeJ talks about crucible and then the OP jumps to talking about damage done in raids.

            • It's not misleading if he said, flat-out, that IN CRUCIBLE the weapons won't miss a step. He wasn't trying to obfuscate. Also: My Vault weapons do just fine in the new Raid. VoC is still a beast; Hezen Vengence is a good sub for Gjallarhorn (if you need to) and Praedyth's revenge is the best non-exotic sniper in the game.

              • Why do people seem to forget how Attack Power Rating works? Attack power only matters when the player is a lower level than the target being shot at other wise your weapons will do full damage. Take a level 30 character, take the starting auto rifle from the game, do a level 30 mission and it will do its job (more or less). You can keep your raid weapons. Hopefully this information is put to good use.

              • As long as you're lvl 31/32 using a weapon of atleast 300 damage will be the same I can't say the same for next dlc. But so far I'm good I'm more mad that they didn't give us a heads up on the stealth patch yesterday

              • If we let the VOG weapons to be upgraded, no one will want to do the new raid since we have the old weapons. This is meant to keep the gamers going after the new raid.

                • I believe that the drop of lvl 31 VOG will yield the second tier of raid armor and weapons to be equivalent to the new dlc legendaries. My question is, why raise dmg for legendaries? They should have kept the max at 300 and only gave exotics 331

                • Yeah I played the vault of glass and got the old versions of red death and universal remote which I love but I also have a new thorn so what is the point in even keeping my old exotics if they don't have the new damage(I also have the dlc so it's not like I didn't earn upgraded versions of the weapons)
