You never reset player's progress in games like these
You obviously have never played an action RPG with gear based leveling in it. This shit is normal.

Such as?

Borderlands 1 and 2. Defiance. Path of exile. When new expansions came out with a level increase your old gear is useless, would you rather that happen?
-
Honestly yes, the hunt for NEW gear is half the fun of these games. Not re-doing all the work you've already done for the same things you already have. I've never known a game to have an expansion where I just relevel what I already have.

You don't have to do anything. Nobody is forcefully taking away your stuff. It is a choice.

Diablo 2, diablo 3 for starters.

Your lvl is not determined by gear in Diablo 3. I'd know after putting 430hrs into that game on PC. Level is independent, when the expansion came out, I was still lvl 60 if I took off all my gear. And I didn't have to re-grind for my lvl 60 gear before I could start to do the things to get lvl 61 or better gear either.

Lol. Good luck trying to play the game after the DLC came out without level 60+ gear. Like I have stated to other people. Would you rather have spent all of this time finding these guns or buying them from Xur only to have them completely wasted and thrown to the side when the DLC rolls around? You don't have to upgrade your weapons. The increase is minimal (7 to 8%) and if it really bothers you just get the next legendaries from the vendors that give you 323 or wait for the new exotics.
