All the exotic upgrade plan makes me want to do is not upgrade any exotics except the ones I use almost always (so Ice Breaker and Gjallarhorn). It's a waste of time, effort, and materials since it'll all be obsolete again when the next DLC comes out. Bungie is under this delusion where they think more grinding = more content, as if we want to do the same bounties, missions, and strikes to get experience to level up the same weapons and armour for a small stat increase. It's not new or original, it's the same boring tedium that has plagued this game since launch.
Also, since Destiny was promoted as being about "becoming legend," why is a brand new, unlevelled exotic worth exactly the same as a fully upgraded one in terms of turning it in to get the higher attack version? My Ice Breaker and I have been through a lot together and I fully upgraded her. But if next Friday Xür sells Ice Breaker and offers to upgrade it, turning in my baby is the exact same as someone buying a new one and turning it in. There's nothing legendary about that. I just do not get Bungie's design philosophy when they do stuff like this.
