My guess is it's because the exotics shine with individuality (as weapons). They aren't some off the factory-line generic lead throwers.
In lore these weapons are supposed to be one of a kind. If Destiny were to follow by lore within gameplay exclusively. You would not see more than one of each of these weapons.
Just my two cents, take it as you will...

Seeing as they are changing the name still, and it is still incorrect, that still doesn't make sense.

I'm not saying it's technically correct, I never said that. I'm merely giving reason as to why I and many others do this. You don't have to see sense in it, or even agree with our reasoning, no one's saying you should. You have your way, and we'll have ours.

Pretty much for me. If I get a Hawkmoon, I'm not calling it "the exotic Playstation-timed-exclusivity hand cannon" or saying "I have Hawkmoon" because that's bad grammar and doesn't feel right. It doesn't resemble any hand cannon in any way as far as I'm concerned, so I see it as in a class of its own. Same with the Icebreaker or Gjallarhorn, or the Suros Regime. The only exotic I ever call by just its name 100% of the time is Sunbreakers because I trained myself not to give them the credit.

So, saying a title is incorrect now, and for it to be, it has to have "The" in front of it to be? Bullshit.
-
It's bad grammar in a way, yes. Sure, using a name it's fine grammar, but I'm talking about an item, which means even though its name could be used as a pronoun the brain goes straight to noun since you're talking about a thing. If I walk into a fast food place and say "I want soft drink" that's incorrect grammar. So since I'm talking about a thing in that context it feels weird to call it Hawkmoon with nothing in front of it. Combine that with my previous post and it should be a pretty good explanation of why I do it.
-
That's a silly reason that makes little sense. If you go into a restaurant and ask for a soft drink, they would ask what kind, which you would reply a specific kind. That has nothing to do with the issue at hand. That would be like saying, "I just unlocked a HC" without telling which kind exactly.

Read what I said again. The "a" was missing on purpose, it was fully intended to say "I want soft drink." That's caveman-speak.
-
That is true, yet it still doesn't matter. Putting "The" in front of a title isn't correct, nor does it make it more intellectual.
