Let me get this straight. Under this new system, say I didn't purchase Icebreaker when it was for sale a few weeks ago. After the DLC drop, I'll have to spend 23 coins to purchase it, then another 7 coins and 7k Glimmer to get it maxed out? You know what? That sounds fair. But now I did purchase Icebreaker when it was on sale, and have spent hours leveling it up, in addition to a huge number of ascendant energies, glimmer, materials, and weapon parts. Now to keep it competitive I need the 7 coins and 7k Glimmer to unlock the next slot or two. Still sounds fair. I would even give a few more coins and a lot more glimmer to unlock that extra slot. Unfortunately it is not that simple, and this is the part that sucks: I'll have to level up my icebreaker twice. I now need to re-unlock all of the perks with EXP, gather all the mats and glimmer (this is easier now, thankfully). But all that EXP isn't going to be fun to earn. It would have been better to leave the weapon stock and wait. Don't forget that Icebreaker isn't the only exotic I use regularly. There's also MIDA, Thorn, Hardlight, and Truth. All currently maxed. And this isn't even mentioning my armor pieces... You claim to be listening, Bungie, but we want you to act as well. If you wanted to get player feedback on this in a manner that offered you time to implement a better, less punishing system, you would have asked us about this weeks ago. Edit: And also now I have to wait for RNG to let Xûr offer the Icebreaker for me to upgrade it? Ridiculous and insulting, given this game's history with shoddy and unrewarding RNG. Who knows how long it will take for that to happen. Might get lucky and get it in the first week, allowing me and others to use it on the raid...might take until february.
