So I talked to a couple of my friends who play this game with me first about their opinions on these additions, before I decided to come to my own conclusion and post it here. While I like the idea that we would have to upgrade our guns to be relevant and to work for those upgrades, I am NOT okay with it resetting the reason we have these guns in the first place. That reason being their namesake or signature attributes. It's fine by me if we have to redo their damage/armor upgrades because we are trying to amp them up to be relevant level anyways. But to be honest, the only reason I use Thorn or Red Death is for its namesake/signature thing. I don't want to have to work at getting my trusty, enjoyable gun back to the point that it became trusty/enjoyable . Just my 2 cents. I don't like this and I would prefer it not to happen.

You'll know what we think when the population in your servers drops by half. But by then it will be too late.

Edited by lemonLimeBitta: 12/4/2014 3:59:18 AMSo I'll try offer some insight into this design choice (my opinion) 1) new players come in, we don't want them disadvantaged, let's wipe exotics so new and old are on a level playing field. 2) we want exotics to still be useful when compared to the new exotics, so we need a non-trivial way to upgrade them so that our players stay attached to their weapons. 3) energies and shards are too costly to upgrade exotics, there should be an exotic currency (I don't really understand this one, but that's maybe cause I have 200+ of each, all useless now btw) I just feel like there would have been a little brain storm to work out how to keep exotics relevant without removing the grind (if we can be honest with ourselves, destiny needs grind or we would have stopped playing after the first roll through the raid). My suggestion, for what it's worth: Add a new branch to all exotics, add a new material (dark shard? W/e) that is only obtainable from the dark below (25-50% drop from crota?) that is required to upgrade past the current limit. This forces players to grind your new content, doesn't disadvantage new players, and rewards players who've put a lot into the game already. Thanks for listening to the community DeeJ, as always. $0.02

I've defended this game before release and have done so since. Bungie is making the biggest mistake to the console players. This is not a PC MMO or RPG. This is console and to have 3 months of work go out the window is ludicrous. Just so in another 3 months to have it happen again. I'm sorry but I don't play like that and nor should other players. You got me with the season pass but you will not not get another dime until I see better decisions come out of this game. You need to listen to the people who buy your cars and pay your rent. It's like playing a 3 yr old at a board game and once they start losing or feel like someone is doing better they change the rules. Bungie heed my words. You can't change the rules of the race once it's started.

Thanks for nothing

1 ReplyEdited by Guise-42: 12/3/2014 11:34:37 PMPlease tell us why these design decisions were made, then perhaps we may understand why y'all are changing things so drastically. I've played this game pretty much everyday since launch, love it. But never take away content. Never. Moving weapons to hard only is taking away content from normal, reseting exotics is not adding anything, adding more materials is taking away the relevance of others, new better legendaries makes the old ones obsolete. Always give more. I hope that is what will happen, and you guys at Bungie will knock our socks off with this expansion. But as if now I do not understand these decisions, and honestly I don't like them.

Edited by Turrican14: 12/4/2014 4:50:29 AMHere are my concerns: - the exotic upgrade is a big kick in the teeth. We should be allowed to upgrade without wiping out previous progress. Give the option to reforge all weapons, which would include requiring the weapon to be upgraded from scratch, but don't reset the weapons just so we can add a few extra dps. - my lack of vault space is starting to get so annoying that it's effecting my desire to play anymore. What is the point of introducing new armour and weapons when we have nowhere to put them. I think we need at least 50 armour slots, 100 weapon slots, 40 each for emblems and shaders, and maybe 40 for materials and random stuff. Just make it so that each press of R1 swaps to a new category. - Commendations. Ok so this is to keep us grinding, fair enough. But I think we should be rewarded for the levels we have already reached. If I am level 10 FWC then I should get 10 commendations on the 9th Dec. - Why is there no way to upgrade legendaries to keep them relevant? Are we supposed to just shard all the legendaries we worked for hours to obtain and upgrade? I particularly think we should be able to upgrade faction armour. Many of us bought full sets, it's a shame they are redundant. - One problem with Destiny is a lack of individualism. Everyone looks the same and has the same weapons. You should offer weapon shaders and the ability to reforge all legendaries and above (for a price) so that each weapon/armour piece is an individual item. Thanks - I think you're slowly making progress. The last two patches have been very good. P.S. Remove the fvcking glimmer cap. It's insane.

Hi Deej First of all I would like to say that i don't mind the fact that you trade in your existing exotics for more powerful blank ones. I like that my current gear is not simply invalidated by the expansion. While i have no issue with it, i see all the negative feedback on the forums. So i have some feedback for you which hopefully you consider to be constructive: What if instead of wiping the upgrade tree, buying the upgraded exotic off xur simply added 3 more upgrade damage/armor bubbles. These new bubbles take the same amount of exp to fill as all of the previous bubbles combined. Functionally this is reasonably similar to the system you have revealed. Players will have to grind the same amount of exp to reach max damage as the current system. Psychologically its very different. With the current system the players with the negative responses feel like you are taking away all of their hard work, hence all of the aggressively negative feedback. With the system i have suggested i believe there will be a more positive response as players will feel like you are making their gear better. I get what you guys are trying to do but i think it was just packaged and sold badly.

The path to upgrade should absolutely not reset weapon progress. I can't see a reason for it. I assume it's to remove some imbalance between the ease of just upgrading existing vs the time it takes to acquire and level up the new gear. Actually, that's a good question Deej. Maybe if we understand the reason behind resetting the gear to upgrade it to the higher attack/def version. So what can you tell us?
-
DeeJ. Why make us reset our guns for higher power??? I spent so much time upgrading all of them because thats all i have to do in destiny. Your story is such shit it pisses me off. So i spent so much time upgrading the exotics and now im gonna have to reset it if i want it stronger??? Fukin kidding me? Why not just make more upgrades on the gun. So we can finish it instead of having start over!!! You guys really piss me off DeeJ. This last update seemed a step in the right direction and now im not sure

I like being able to increase my existing exotics to higher stats, and I've also heard people upset about having to completely start over on the exotics. I recommend only resetting the last few nodes to help ease players' stress. I understand that you guys get a lot of flak for your work and I respect you for putting up with it. I for one am glad about this system and believe that with a few more tweaks it'll be good to go. I for one will be getting the dlc and and will be enjoying it to my hearts content.

3 RepliesThey should literally start doing polls. Only about major stuff, and then they can see how people would feel about it.
-
3 RepliesYou probably should have let this be known when you told us about the exotic shard shit the other day. People went and maxed everything they could out just so you can let us down again. I kinda feel like I wasted time. I also kinda feel like this was an intentional bottleneck trap. I want to be so positive. But yeah. -blam!- corporate America. Its all about money. Wedging its way through everything you enjoy.
-
5 RepliesI am actually happy with the news today. When the exotics reset they will upgrade faster and the attack power will increase so they won't be useless compared to new exotics.

Edited by Ingulit: 12/4/2014 3:55:57 AMIn my eyes, all the DLC needed to do (and it looked like all it was going to do!) was introduce a few new maps, a strike or two, a new raid, and lotsa new gear for me to work toward adding to my collection alongside my current stuff. I know that the level cap was going to be raised, and I was really hoping there would be something like a few new upgrade tree spots added to (existing!) legendaries and exotics that required radiant mats to get them the rest of the way to 323 after they were fully upgraded to 300 normally. That way the materials from the old raid (ascendent) were still needed to get to 300, and then the mats from the new raid (radiant) were needed to finish getting it to 32. Had that been the case, I would have happily continued doing the Vault over and over AS WELL AS the new raid to get the materials needed to upgrade both my old and new gear, and would have devoted untold hours devoted to getting the new gear. Unfortunately, as we all now know, this in fact is not the case. The fact that ALL our legendary gear is being obsoleted is horrible. I have spent so long gathering gear that I am very attached to (even for as silly a reason as how it looks, like my fancy Iron Banner gear!), and seeing it all be worthless is saddening. Not just that, but it means the materials used to upgrade those weapons (ascendent mats) are going to be mostly worthless as well, meaning it will eventually become exceptionally hard to find people willing to do the Vault anymore. It is good that existing exotics are being given a new lease on life post-DLC, but upgrading them is horribly unintuitive and needlessly annoying; not only is RNG and needing to wait until Friday being added, but the amount of time required to level it up AGAIN is more of a chore than fun. (on a related note, I'm actually not very happy about the change to exotic weapons not needing ascendent materials; like what I said earlier about legendaries, I'd rather they require BOTH kinds of materials, giving us a reason to run both raids more) Destiny had me totally hooked already, and I was perfectly ready to continue playing without needing to replace and/or fully re-level everything up AGAIN. I personally play Destiny strictly for PvP (and I enjoy the heck out of Destiny's PvP!), but as much as I hate to say it, if the gear I need for PvP that I get from PvE is just going to be invalidated every few months, requiring me to spend less time playing PvP to get it, playing other dedicated multiplayer FPSs is starting to look much more attractive again. TLW: I'd continue being hooked if post-DLC I was looking to ADD to my collection of gear that I use to play PvP, but if I have to look for gear to REPLACE my entire now-useless collection I will probably look elsewhere for PvP FPS, sadly :(

We don't even get the hard version until January. Wow.

4 RepliesThis is a great way to let us keep our items Deej! I would 100 times rather upgrade my current exotics then have to find them again. Keep up the good work bungie ! :)
-
My only issue is the full reset of the item. Personally I have plenty of time to grind it back out to max, especially because it nolonger requires shards. However, I know many people who don't have the time to grind it out and I feel like you shouldn't be penalized to increase the damage. Whit the IB gear I understand because you changed the skills but exotics are always the same and people that have already thrown shards and mats at the item shouldn't have to do that again.
-
The idea is fine, but the presentation needs work. People don't like to feel like they're losing progress, especially in a game where the entire motivating factor to keep playing is a series of progress bars and cool down timers. You're undermining the very psychological factors that keep people playing the game. Instead of making people start over, just slap another "upgrade damage/armor" perk onto them and make that upgrade take as much experience to acquire as leveling the item all the way up from scratch. Then you've still got the long progress bar before you can improve the item, without having to feel like you're starting over.

Still nothing to eat in the Tower. My Titan has tears for (lack of) Tacos.

You can't announce something as stupid as this just ONE WEEK away from its implementation! 100% of the community could vote against this but it's clearly too late to change anything, so why ask what we think -_-? You operate in a very shady fashion, couldn't even pull off 60fps and have yet to add ANYTHING meaningful to the game Let's take a step back and actually look at what's happened in the 3months since launch Fixed cryptarch Fixed engrams Fixed some of the raid Fixed some kto's Fixed iron banner Balanced weapons Patched various exploits (loot cave) You make outrageous claims for the future of destiny when in reality, nothing has changed since launch and when you suddenly announce bad decisions like you actually believe in them it leaves me with only one conclusion. This game is now a cash cow that you intend to milk for all its worth....your main priority is to sell expansion 1....this new upgrade mechanic is nothing more than a ploy to make non dlc players feel left out and under-geared.... The act of reaching level 31+should be enough to tackle level 31+mobs but instead you have created this problem yourselves by buffing post dlc weapons and your solution is to get people to buy the dlc. Simultaneously this keeps people playing longer to level up their exotics all over again just in time for expansion 2. Your trick sparrow offer will end January 15th I assume that is why it's around this time you will release the hard mode variant of crotas end. I will not be buying your dlc next week I'm going to wait and see just how greedy you really are.
-
2 RepliesOne step forward and 5 great leaps backwards. The game play is great, weapon and character movements are easy to catch onto, but for everyone to be forced to reset their weapons to stay on par with the best is idiotic. All raid weapons are becoming obsolete after the dlc drops. so you make players sink more hours into this game and for what? To do the same thing on the next dlc? The economy is severely broken and having caps on glimmer and marks is ridiculous. This just highlights bungie new slogan, "play anyway you want and choose your own path, as long as it stays linear to how we think you should play".
-
So what about exotic weapons from bounties and the like? Will I be able to buy a Vex Mythoclast? I mean, after almost 1k hours game time, I just can seem to get this weapon to drop for me. Clarity please thanks.
-
Looks like they are increasing the amount of glimmer you can horde.
-
We know it's not your fault DeeJ but let bungie know they're I the wrong on this new upgrade path
