I just thought of something, and I'd like to see what you guys think.
What, if any, races actually make up the Darkness?
The Fallen, from what I can gather, are a race of beings who, after a Golden Age-esque timeline, 'fell' and became a thinly spread race of space pirates. They definitely have some interesting technology, such as those eyeballs (read Servitors). They might just be trying to scrape by, or establish the beginnings of a new settlement.
The Hive look like they are the obvious enemy- which I'm not doubting, they don't seem to be very peaceful- but they might just be pawns for a larger game, orchestrated by Oryx or Crota or some other malignant force.
The Vex are the most intriguing to me, as much of the present story seems to be focused on them. From the information that is given, they seem to be almost built into the universe, as caretakers, or a cancer growing from the inside. But the two things that are really interesting are the Black Garden, and The Vault of Glass, the two major Vex hotspots so far discovered in the system. Did the Vex find the Black Garden through their exploration, were they formed by it, or did they create it? And why did the Black Heart "die" when the three statues were destroyed?
The Vault, I don't know enough about to make any judgements. But it seems... removed... from the other vex strongholds.
The Cabal: meh. They seem extremely straightforward to me: a military force intent on conquering as much of the universe as they can, much like a space-age Roman Empire, which seems to be the inspiration for their names.
Tl;dr: I don't believe that the story of Destiny (as gutted as it is at the present) is as simple as good vs evil. There must be more.

1 ReplyI think it has something to do with those floating black pyramids from the art. The cabal seem awfully interested in all the same ruins as the vex and considering the power of those flayers I think at the top of their royal hierarch is much more intelligence. The vex are the most intriguing but I've grown more interested in the hive and their weird religious chivalry thing. And those giant seeders wtf The fallen are interesting though not entirely interesting. Lol. The bounties reveal a semi machine side to them. I wonder if by fallen they are humans who were turned semi mech by the darkness / even the experiments of the hive wizards. Or maybe they had a big tech age then fell when they were abandoned. One thing I Noticed is the fallen emblems in the Traitors Ketch on the moon look ALOT like the Hive emblems on the temple walls. The hive emblem is like dots over the line art silhouette of a thrall face. Or could even by the silhouette of a shreiker or seeder. The fallen emblem looks similar only there are dots (seeds) with two hands reaching up to them coming out of the same type of line art diamond. Whose seeds are they catching or reaching out too?

It feels like it could be a rip off of the vampire diaries. The darkness could be a curse upon the traveler to not let him stay I one place to long and become to powerful. Some if the Grimoire cards suggest that the traveler may have just stopped to build his army of guardians for his own selfish purposes.
