Following the "Build on your Legend" motto, I would like to suggest possibility to accomplish something like that.
Personalized weapons.
"This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine." - Rifleman's Creed.
Right now, you find an "Exotic" weapon. Your "Exotic", let's say: Hawkmoon will be the exact same that anybody else has. It's not special anymore, specially since there are so many of them.
I'd like to see the possibility to make it yours and that It could be Identified as yours by carrying your name. It would be "MizzrBear's Hawkmoon".
Some Ideas about the mechanics that could be involved/required for this:
- Introduce a new item type, like "Customized".
- The process could be started either randomly or by a quest requiring materials.
- Limit it to one item per account. To start a new one you would be required to either scrap (or even better, turn-in the item (so other players could purchase it, keeping the original name of the weapon)"
- The customization should add a set of random upgrades/perks to the weapon. (for example, to add or change an element to the damage), Increase Stats, etc.
- By introducing random stats, players will have a chance to produce the weapon they want, so now you have a reason to keep those three Ice Breakers and put time and effort into getting the weapon you want.
Ideas, comments?

*BUMP*!

the idea is intresting but to only have one gun i can customize seem a bit disapointing. maby make it so you can customize a guns stats for example the 3 perks that are always listed below eachother could be changed with a randomizer in other words the new stats are random. and maby make it so that you can change an element or add an element to primarys only once and you would need certain materials to do so. maby also paint a gun where you can change the color of your gun with 3 color slots. i would walk around with a pink hawkmoon. PS: a weapon idea i have. http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/78271030/0/0/1

Thanks for the Comment Saint! I like the quest layout. This should be really THE best weapon [or maybe armor too!] that you could get. And it should be AMAZINGLY good and really RARE. I don't really like pulling WoW as a comparison but they did get some things right, their legendary weapons were really that. Only a few handful of people had them because they were a B**CH to get, but they (most of them) were totally worth it! That's why I was so disappointed with the whole exotic tier of items. There's SO MANY of them, so common, so likely to get and worst of all, most legendary items are better anyway! And the only reason I'd like to see some randomization in the process is because people WILL cry if you have something they don't, but this you will be able to say: Well, I got this because I worked hard for it! I couldn't find it, but a couple of weeks ago, I saw a post about a kid whining about how he wanted Pocket Infinity to get nerfed since he got his ass whooped by someone using one in a crucible match. Just a week later, I happened to spot a post from the SAME KID whining about how HIS pocket infinity was now useless after it got hit by the nerf stick. It's always so fun to watch how people react when they are on one or the other side of the barrel... and that ladies, is why communism does not work :D

Edited by SaintElistan: 11/12/2014 3:39:06 PMI like it. I could see this implemented as the logical step above the "Exotic" tier. The question then becomes...does this weapon count as an exotic for equipping purposes? It probably should. One Legendary, One Exotic, One Custom could be too big of a power leap. Balance would be very difficult in PvP and you can't really alienate that part of the player base by banning Customs from Crucible matches. The only solution might be to set a scaled back version (stat-wise) of customs that retain a players cosmetic changes and perks while in The Crucible. Perhaps the best route would be to introduce a Quest Line as you mentioned with the final reward being the player's choice - not upgrading an existing exotic or legendary. The Quest Line would need to be lengthy and difficult but possible to solo or at least offer mission objectives that support matchmaking among players attempting to complete the quest as well (i.e. not like Thorn). Steps in this Quest Line 1) Selecting Your Weapon Type 2) Selecting Your Stat Focus - I would love to see Intellect, Discipline, or Strength on a Weapon. 3) Selecting Your Elemental Damage - Affects the appearance of Shots Fired 4) A Forging Sequence where players can customize their weapons physical shape and appearance. 5) A Series of Quests that Amplify Certain Weapon Stats (Rate of Fire vs Impact, Range vs Stability, Reload vs Magazine) 6) Selection of Minor Perks - Select two perks from the existing Legendary-level perk pool. 7) Unlock a Major Perk - Create a large pool of Exotic-Level Perks? 8) Unleashing the Weapon's Light - Yes, let's put Light on a weapon too - bonus: adds a glow effect to your weapon (choice of color?). 9) Learning Your Weapon's Name - Sorry, been watching Bleach. I'm torn on creating one weapon per account. I think that if the weapon were unique and bound to a character, you would have the same effect with each of a players character retaining more of an identity. If there is any randomness applied to the quest change, I think it should be repeatable until players get a desired result - otherwise you loose the feel of personalization. It would probably be best if RNGesus had little to do with Custom Weapons, haha! I like the idea of weapon shaders. Or at the very least allow current armor shaders to override weapon colors. Here's hoping that Bungie implements something along these lines in the future! Great idea. Thank you for already commenting on my thread about changing the Mark & Currency system. http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/78245306

Choose the perks of thorn, explosive ammo + firefly + outlaw(or something like it). Would be a beast.

1 ReplyYep yep yep. Signed and bumped.

Agree... I hadn't thought about weapon shaders!

Good idea, even weapon shaders would be nice to have

I thought about that myself, and even without trade, the items could eventually be turned into just random drops after one of them is "turned in". Leaving also the option to destroy them for materials. The mechanics of random stats on weapons is already in place, so there's not much that would need to be tweaked there to make this work.

1 ReplyThis would be pretty cool with the limitations you have in place, also would be interesting to see what kinds of custom weapons others create. But since I don't believe Bungie will ever have a trade market system between players, I don't believe that something like this would be implemented.

1 ReplyDang, I wish this thing wouldn't scroll so fast, I posted this 30 mins ago and it's already in page 7! >_<
