Too long didn't read. But FPS companies shouldn't make an rpg. Simply put

 • Good thing Destiny is an FPS and not an RPG so we can avoid this problem.

 • Everything except character control and crucible screams rpg so we do have this problem. Not to mention the original concept was for an rpg with first person view and guns

 • I enjoy a good RPG, though mostly in the area of Final Fantasy. I really don't see much comparison. I'm not sure what original concepts you are referring to, but it really doesn't matter. This game is a shooter, pure and simple, and one of the best. Everything built for this game is based on the foundations of shooters and the recent trends of them. It may have blends of things that are involved in RPG games, but that doesn't make it one, just like having a soccer ball in the tower doesn't make it a sports game.

 • How is it a fps in anything other than how you use your character? It has npcs which are shops, quests, gear progression, drop tables(even-though they are bad), a progressive story, a small grind, and even a town area. What fps games have any of this? What fps games have PVE at all? What fps games are not straight multiplayer?

 • tldr:
The core and best part of the game is the FPS action. If you want to view this game as an RPG, that's up to you but you will find that it is very shallow because that's not the focus.
FPS games have always been about PVE: Wolfenstein, Doom, Quake, Duke Nukem, Half-Life, Unreal, Redneck Rampage, Serious Sam, Call of Duty, Halo, Rainbow Six, etc. Seems like the only ones with straight multiplayer are the minority but with growing popularity. Even Battlefield now has PVE. Most of what you mentioned is the loot aspect of the game, but loot is really just a way to customize your character and to serve as the FPS perk system. CoD has had weapon progression so this is nothing new. The addition of armor progression and abilities are just an extension of that. Halo has offered different armor pieces that you unlock and "earn" in order to customize your look so nothing new there. NPC's in Destiny are supporting cast and allow you to advance through the game without actually having to pick up loot - you can just buy everything eventually if you wanted to. The town area is to host the NPC's. There are no NPC's that are not vendors or have a primary function - for example you can't talk to a random robot or stranger in the tower. There are no NPC's that you can talk to when exploring. Leveling up does not mean anything except to manage difficulty settings - you do not gain stats as you would in a normal RPG. Halo featured a progressive story with many side stories. More so once ODST and Reach came along. In Final Fantasy I often had to mindlessly grind in order to beat the Weapons and other end game enemies. In this game I was able to level up enough to gain access and beat the Vault of glass and didn't once feel like I did any sort of grinding. Patrol is great for just hunting random mobs outside of the story and the little "quests" suggest a goal that you can accomplish while doing so. The core of Destiny is to go on missions and strikes. The most complimented part of the game is the controls and FPS action. When I play this game, it comes off to me as an FPS, and Bungie just happens to call this a shooter also. I agree that it shares some elements of RPG's, but that is not the focus of the game.
