Destiny is continually compared to other games that are sequels and continuations of other series, which is an utterly flawed argument. Destiny started with nothing - no engine, no tooling, no infrastructure - and those things do not evolve overnight. Comparing the amount of time it takes to bring an entirely new game through its initial phase of development, versus how long it takes to continue an existing franchise is short-sighted. There is a lot more to a game than the content, and the entire timeframe of development is simply just not spent on that aspect.
Especially when you make the argument of comparing Bungie to Bethesda, you do have a point. There is a major difference. I love Bethesda. Despite the fact their games are as buggy as hell for a considerable period after they are released. Especially Skyrim, which I do adore, is a game that was always plagued with issues. Complete a quest objective by exploring before getting a quest? You might not be able to complete the quest once given to you - and if that is a main storyline quest? Hope you have backups. Speaking of backups... Nothing more enjoyable than having your Level 60 character get corrupted and not being able to load it again. That right there is why I re-bought the game to play it on PC instead of a console. That also opened my eyes to how absolutely rubbish the console ports were, in terms of gameplay and graphics.
Sure, Destiny is light in content - no arguing that. Bungie even says that they've heard us on that and are working to fix it, which is easy to miss with the flood of troll posts, nonsense, and repeating the same topics over and over and over again. However, I personally do not buy in to the intentional cutting up of the game to create more profits. The simplest reason was if there was so much finished content, and they were looking to simply keep selling it to us, we would not be going months and months between DLC releases. If the corporate greed was as sinister as people are saying it was, and there was so much content just laying around to milk our wallets, we would likely be paying a monthly fee, or getting sold monthly DLCs. Neither of those things are happening. Perhaps - just perhaps - they spent as much time as they did building the basis for a series that is to span the full plan? You can look to the gameplay and mechanics of the game to see that it is near the top of the heap in terms of those two aspects, alone - which is actually quite impressive.
I am not about to retype what I typed out the other day, as to how maps are not finished content. Some of us have been saying this since the Beta, and even Bungie has said the same. You can choose to believe them, or not; that is up to you. Empty maps, though, are not content.

Please realize, that this is all opinion - which is really all you are posting, as well.
Destiny started with nothing - no engine, no tooling, no infrastructure
Maybe. But it did start with a template that it uses VERY heavily for the basic game elements. Reach They are so similar that it's not even funny.

Concepts and ideas are a dime a dozen, though. The human effort to bring those to life is great and varied. It takes a full-team, working long days, to actually take something from an idea to something that you hold in your hands. Considering that Bungie has absolutely no retention in ownership to Halo, I would be fairly certain that would mean that they also have no access to the previously existing codebase, either. Even if you have developed something once, if you start from scratch again, chances are that you will not do it the same way again. Between the lessons learned and new bodies/skills brought into the team and lost to turnover, plus the things that they wanted to do that they may have not been previously allowed to do, it really is all from the ground-up again.

Hopefully 2 will be better like how halo 2 was better than halo CE

It is all just personal theory, but based on what has come out in regards to the "ten year plan", I am starting to personally believe that Destiny 2 will encompass all of Destiny, plus the new features and content that is planned for that iteration of the game. Since our Guardians will follow us through the plan, I would think that it all is part of a single in-game timeline. Theory would be that they would modify the engine and gameplay aspects to be truly "current generation" in terms of PS4/XB1, so that we have improved graphics, the features that are too large to fit into the lifespan of this version of Destiny, and still provide a means for people who are starting with Destiny 2 to have that clear path to participate side-by-side with the rest of us - which is also something that Bungie said that they wanted to do. All speculation, at this point, but if it were a project that I was running, with the details that we do know, that is definitely the approach that I would take with it. I do not think they can simply expand in what Destiny 2 is, because some of the decisions made were to accommodate for last generation, as well. Improving on existing areas, and pushing out their boundaries, and giving us new content is just the only logical conclusion that I am coming to, at the moment. :-)

destiny one is just a blank canvas one that can be painted any color and the sequals are the paints

Edited by jmferris: 11/6/2014 3:06:15 PMAgreed. I do really wish there was more content, but the actual engine aspects, and butter-smooth gameplay, are truly superb. Destiny has an absolutely tremendous upside, and despite the early bumps in the road, Bungie is not giving up on it. Personally, I'm not going to, either. I definitely will be playing Dragon Age after next week, which will limit my time with Destiny for a bit - but I am fine with that. Same thing will happen when Witcher 3 comes out (assuming it is met with good reviews before I buy it), and several other games in that same timeframe. I never planned for Destiny to be the only game I ever played, nor that when I played something else, that I could never come back to it. :-) Edit: After next week... A game I am slightly impatient for, at the moment. ;-)
