Market Research# Need your help!!

Hey guys I've got a quick question for you! If a cool new mobile app required you to enter your phone number instead of an email address when signing up would you do it?? Would you do it if it meant it would be significantly more secure? Thanks for the help guys!

  • I could have sworn I answered this... weird. Anyway, it depends on the coolness of the app and if it balances the information I reveal to third parties in using it. Security kind of means two things on the internet. There's the security given to you to protect your appliances from external threats, then there's the threat of the appliance providers invasion of your privacy. I'm really paranoid, so if an app asks for my location I always decline no matter how useful it is. If it asks to relay information about my usage or personal information (even things like names) I do the same thing. Not everyone's that extreme, but everyone thinks about those things from time to time if they know anything about spyware (besides the name itself I guess). Another tip (if it applies at all), disclose your privacy statement in full on the app itself. When a site directs me to its website for that information I'm immediately suspicious why they wouldn't just include it like most other information in their terms of agreement. Hope this is helpful

    • If you don't mind me asking, what kind of app is it? If it's an app where higher security is something you need such as in banking or cryptocurrency trade, then customers would probably be more receptive to giving out their phone numbers for this extra security.

        • No. It's much easier to ignore spam emails than spam text messages.
