I'm guna say that 99.9% of statistics are made up on the spot and this is incorrect

You, Klam, are quite the interesting person to say the least, and not in a great connotation:p I am completely on Fanatu's side in saying that K/D doesn't matter as much as you think it does. And you say that roles play no big part? Oh really? Look at COD, as an example. on CTF, how does one capture it with no role? Does one sit watch and two go to cap it? Well no because in your argument there are no roles. So then they would just run around killing people and risk losing the game? No, kind sir. They set up roles, an anchor, to guard, runner, to cap, support, to lay down fire, striker, to keep opponent team numbers at bay, and then lets not even get into sub roles given to runners and supports. Merry Christmas.
-
There are no roles in this game. Unless you go out of your way to do so, the crucible has nothing that promotes organizing your team; everything is highly based on getting kills and objectives do nothing more than boost getting kills. I still love the pvp in this game, but complexity and teamwork isn't it's strongest point
-
But you agree that it can be? But you said that there wasn't and that strategy doesn't matter...
-
It's absolutely unnecessary to have an organized team with roles. Just point and shoot and you'll win.
-
Why thank you my good sir
-
Actually yes because I'm a hunter and I turn 18 in like a month and a half and I actually know what I'm doing and don't suck
-
You don't?
-
No I don't, and you wana know why? Cuz I enjoy playing this game, I do it because I want to and because I have fun playing either by myself or with my friends. Yes it could be better but I have fun with what I was given and think that this might not actually suck in the future like everyone's saying, I have fun and that's all that matters. I bought the game to enjoy it and I am so I did good and that was money well spent
-
You're misunderstanding. You said that you don't suck, yet you have a low k/d. I'm sure you enjoy the game as much as I do, that's not the point lol
-
Low K/D has nothing to do with whether you suck or not, the main crucible game type I play is control and mine is .97 on that, idc about K\D personally and I understand why some people do but I don't. My judgement as to whether people suck or not is do they enjoy the game and do the offer constructive criticism not just stupid remarks
-
What was stupid about my remark? K/d is determinant of player usefulness.
-
But that's not true, player roles in PvP come in different shapes and sizes. Where some people may be snipers and get kills but don't die often or whether their a support that just helps get rid of shields so that the opponents can be defeated. There are some that get the majority of kills but if you go and look how many did they deal all the damage to every single one of those kills? And how many would be because someone else hurt them before the final blow was dealt? I have close to a 1 point K/D in the game type I frequent most and I'm usually within the top 2 if not the top player of my team and within the top 3 in lobby. I can count multiple times that I started a game that had already been going for minutes and still end up at the top of the lobby. So no I don't suck. And to answer your question I wasn't saying your comment specifically I just meant in general that a player should offer good feedback not just stupid remarks and troll other players that they don't agree with.
-
I just skimmed through your recent games and like every 3 kills you have an assist. K/d means everything in this game because it's a tdm based pvp. If you are dying more than you are killing, you're inevitably harming the team.
-
Except you know the FFA and the control games, those totally aren't different. ( that was sarcasm). And half of those games were played trying to accomplish bounties therefore restraining me and keeping from playing to my fullest because I was trying to either get kills in a specific way or something, there was even a bounty that says get 50 assists. So no kills is not what this game is all about, are they important? Duh, but it's a FPS so yes their important but not your K/D
-
Control is kill based. Capping points gives you hardly any score at all compared to the kills multiplied by said controlled points. So indirectly, caps matter, but you can easily win against a team with 2/3 points held by having a high k/d (granted all your teammates have the same)
-
Ok let's do it this way, my control stars vs yours and then we can do my skirmish vs yours sense that's the game type you play the most. My stats: Zones capped- 301 Best score- 6665 Longest life- 10 minutes and 26 seconds Most kills- 31 Longest spree- 14 Precision kills- 8 K/D- .97 Your stats: Zones- 319 Best score- 6840 Longest life- 6 minutes and 59 seconds Most kills- 30 Spree- 11 Precision- 10 K/D- 1.64 Based off of these stats for control me and you are not very far from each other, and looking at your total kills which are in the 2000's and mine which are around 700-800 so I have played much less than you and yet have worse stats on some and better on others I think it's safe to say that no I don't suck. We can go look at skirmish now. Mine: Best score- 1540 Longest life- 1 minute 30 seconds Kills- 11 Spree- 4 Precision- 5 K/D- .52 Yours: Best score- 3555 Longest life- 11 minutes and 52 seconds Kills- 30 Spree- 22 Precision- 13 K/D- 1.95 Based off these stats your better at skirmish, my only defense is I've played maybe 5-7 matches of it so I don't have much to pull from. But I don't play skirmish, you do and that's your thing. But either way based off of these stats you could say I suck at skirmish, but do I really? Or have I just not played that much? But I'm good at control. So take this however you will but no I don't suck.

Well see the thing that you aren't considering is the k/d. It shows how often you die in relation to how often you kill. High score is all well and good but when you give the other team just as many points it completely negates your contributions. That's my argument in a nutshell. So even if you are contributing most to the team, you're also contributing arguably equally to the other team as well.
-
The problem with your argument is that you aren't considering the fact that I mayb be dying while helping others get kills, so even if I die then the person that kills me dies as well, so K/D is all well and good but it doesn't take into mind how much you help other teammates get kills
-
That's a weak logic considering how easy it is for something to qualify as an assist in this game.
-
Weak logic is saying that a number is the only way to judge skill and contribution from a player
-
No it isn't. Stats are everything.
-
But that's not true. Stats can't tell you play style, stats can't tell you anything other than that dude has a lot of kills and that guy doesn't. And if you wana say that stats are everything then let's go back to the list of stats from earlier, based off of that me and you are about the same skill lvl wise, except that we aren't because I have the same stuff there with about 1/3 the kills so that would make me better than you wouldn't it? I'm not saying I am, I'm not saying I care if I am. But if stats are everything then you have to look at all the stats and not just 1. That is the problem with your argument. Your taking all of your info from 1 single stat and not from then list of things they give you. If you were playing baseball would you only care about home runs? No because you also have to think about pitching and catching and throwing, you have to think about RBI's and everything else. You can't just think about kills, you have to think about assists and captures and everything else that comes with the game, so again I'll say no I don't suck.
-
Edited by Klammlorx: 11/2/2014 12:58:41 AMK/d is also indicative of play style. If you play smart, you die less whilst being able to kill others. Assists aren't a good measure for usefulness. One AR round counts as an assist. Caps are useful but not as much as you might think; they merely multiply kills.
-
And makes you win the game faster therefor making them very important, are they needed to win, no but they make it a crap ton easier. Cuz 2 caps gives you double the points so instead of 30 kills giving you 3000 points 15 does making it take less kills to win so therefor making K/D less representative of skill because if you can keep 2 points longer that means you have to be getting kills but your getting twice as many as you would without the 2 points so K/D becomes less representative
-
K/d is representative in all cases. By your logic, faster = better. When you die you not only lose points and a potential capture zone, but there's also, what, a 5 second cool down? Let's say an entire team had your k/d, whereas the opposing team would have mine. The one with your k/ would lose the match even if they had 2 points capped because they would kill more than twice as often as you would (~1.8 k/d vs. ~0.7-0.8 k/d.
