It really is completely do-able. My brother, a friend, and I completed it legitimately this week and only wiped once (funnily enough it was before we even got to the boss.) Having a player with a solar rocket launcher for wizards and another with an arc heavy machine gun was clutch. Solar launcher to drop wizard shields and health, arc hmg to finish. Knights were destroyed start to finish by arc hmg. Arc snipers were really important in the boss room for clearing knight spawns on the second level.
In the boss room the strategy is to avoid damaging Phogoth until all the adds are killed (so he doesn't unchain himself). Then hit him a few times to unchain him. After he is unchained more adds spawn. For the rest of the fight you avoid/ignore phogoth and focus on demolishing adds the moment the drop ship arrives or watching your motion tracker like a hawk to clear them as soon as they enter from any door way. After 10 to 12 add waves the adds completely stop, leaving you to focus on Phogoth for as long as it takes.
The adds are without a doubt the deadliest part of the fight. I ran striker with armamentarium and maxed discipline for maximum crowd control through flashbangs to keep other team members safe and leave wizards/knights helpless while we focused them. My brother ran striker with lightning grenades to toss under the ship and in front of doorways during spawns, and our friend ran sunsinger - the persistent solar grenades were great at doorways and in groups to strip wizard shields.

Good explanation. I didn't know the adds stopped after awhile.
-
That's how it should be done with everyone using abilities as a team.

Yeah, I really wish that classes were even more distinct, with additional abilities so that these great teamwork situations were more common and diverse. Right now Titan feels like the only team oriented class with Ward of Dawn and Flashbang. The other two classes are pretty much completely limited to DPS, although I suppose an argument could be made for "zone control" by blocking enemies movement with persistent grenades from warlock.

Sunsinger would like a word with you

Self-rez can potentially save a team but doesn't really create any significant or fun "team-play" opportunities during the actual fighting.

See, there's this thing called Song of Flame...

Oh that cool move with a 3 foot radius that lets people throw an extra grenade every 5-10 minutes. Yeah it's great.
