I did so several times in this topic. But here we go again:
Avoiding the core mechanic of a boss fight by for example using certain barriers with in the game world especially to AI to avoid direct confrontation with the enemy.
For example killing the Fallen tank in Devil’s Lair with a sniper from the roof of the building to the far left side of the map: It is out of range for the AI so the AI stays passive while you kill it.
Staying outside of the second chamber in the Summoning Pits and sniping Phogoth. He doesn’t move and the add AI resets in the first chamber ergo no danger of dying to anything.
Sniping the Archon priest in Winters Run from below the platform as he can hardly hit you and no add can ever reach you.
etc.
It is less about the environments and more the AI limitations to be honest.
The enemies are restricted to certain areas. They simply can’t go outside of these for whatever reason there is.
They reset once they reach the barrier of their area be either by teleporting back or running back to their original location.
So if you stay outside of this area you can do whatever you want without being really endangered.
For example in Winter’s Run you can clear out all enemies in the 3 wave area with a sniper from the huge stone formation on the entrance. The enemies will simply move to the edge of the bottom area and that’s it. You are out of range of their weapons and out of their active area, they can’t do anything other than die to you picking them off one by one.
In the phogoth one if you stay in the chamber just before phogoth's room enemies will come in then stop and then either leave or if they're wizards or shirekers they despawn. So this isn't using the environment like hiding behind cover but using the games AI limitations as an exploit.
