I think one issue you may have is that you are level 27. I've read that for every level down you are from a strike or raid level you will do 20% less damage and also take more damage. Regardless even at 29 I can only take very little damage compared to non nightfall missions. And if the mobs have the melee modifier you are easily one hit and dead regardless of level it seems.
Besides that you have to use slower movement and have the right weapons with damage modifier to survive. On top of that using some map safe points seem a must for certain strikes.

My Hunter is 29, the Warlock 28 and the Titan is 27.

Bottom line even with level differential accounted for and with right weapon modifiers, one either picks the terrain they fight or run/jump like a damn chicken with its head cut off to avoid fire and do far less dps thus making the strike last longer and increasing odds of wiping.

You notice any damage difference between them? Also dps output? I did even with same weapons swapped between them. I did find the use of certain terrain choices minimized chance to wipe. Like last weeks heroic nightfall of Sepkis Prime. In the room where you hack the barrier, I would go to the area where the fuel tanks are to reduce incoming damage. Or use the room to the left of Sepkis Prime to fight from.

That is what I'm getting at. Bungie made the AI so that they do not pursue the player at certain locations. You can stay at the knocked over rail tanker or the house on the left in Devil’s Lair all day long, go on holiday and build a house for your family. No enemy ever is going to go there you are 100% perfectly save there. Which makes not going there the most stupid decision ever. And that is the issue. You see Bungie could have closed those Ai gabs, intentional or not, and instead made the enemies not break your spine by looking at you angrily for 0.1 seconds.

Edited by PROCK7: 10/26/2014 7:26:58 PMI agree. I'm a military guy and there is wisdom in the adage "there are no rules in war." Now for argument sake let's avoid the philosophical and moral debate about this adage in real world events and just apply this to the game which is based on guardians fighting a war against the "Darkness." Anyone who says "let's fight honorably" hamstrings themselves. Using whatever tactics to your advantage is trying to be efficient as measured by most kills with least amount of deaths. Whether it's pvp or pve, in a "war" results do matter and those who say you "cheat" well that's your rules. It's a video game for crying out loud. Fight and win. No one cares if you fight honorably and feel using terrain or AI glitch is cheating. If it is to Bungie they will patch it like they are with Atheon. I agree with OP that gaming AI is still lacking and the balance to show increased difficulty is either making enemy dps ridiculous or turn mob into a bullet sponge. Some AI isn't that bad but a Fallen Captain with yellow health and shields that teleports away from too much damage while shooting bullets that seek you out is annoying. Overall Bungie focused a LOT on making this game pretty but there are areas to improve like story, matchmaking, pve content, etc. AI should be on that lost too.
