I honestly feel like Bungie put in places to be safe in each of the boss encounters.
1. The room on the bottom level of Sepkis Prime.
2.There is a ledge in the back left of Phogoth's chamber in addition to the second room
3. The space behind the huge stone pillar in the Nexus strike.
4. The rocks and scaffolding in the Archon Priest fight.
5. There are a couple of places in the Valus Tu'aric fight that you can hide as well but the don't seem as safe.
Maybe these are exploit spots but the feel designed in to me to give people a chance. I don't care what level you are or what gear you have if you have to stand in and take shots in a Nightfall you are going down.

The only 2 I disagree with are pho goth and the nexus, considering both bosses move enough to hit you eventually. Also, there is one true safe spot for phase 4 of valus towel rack. (Sp*) one side of the stairs has an excellent spot to hide and it lures the boss to stand with his head exposed and unable to melee or shoot or even kill you with rockets, because you're in his effective melee range. But yeah. The problem is that they release these buggy pieces of content. And when we exploit these bugs because it's the only way to stand a chance we can't help but feel like we're missing something; but they won't show us what we're missing because the content is only cheesable unless you're above 28.

Valus towel rack made me laugh so hard. Oh god. I can't breathe.

The back left area on Summoning Pits works like a charm. Just have to be careful of the pesky Wizards and Knights. The Nexus spot is behind the first pillar you jump from. It's imbedded into the rock wall. Nexus can't hit you at all there, but in return you can't hit him either. Sitting in the top middle revolving circles is a much better spot.
-
Yeah, I found I could stand on his start point on the ceiling if I was careful With pho goth are you referring to the room with the shrieker or "back left" from the other side?
-
Negative. For Summoning Pits if you follow the left path in all the way back there is a rock. Just behind that rock there is a grouping of rocks on the cliff. You can stand back there and be relatively safe. The room is still a better idea IMO, but that spot also works.

Interesting. Thanks for the info! Trying to find ways to legitimately handle nightfall is more fun than bugging the shrieker room in the long run. They can't patch legit strategies! They work forever 8)

Edited by mtwiggz: 10/26/2014 5:17:14 PMWe use the rock wall strategy when we help noobs level. We place them there and stand in front of that area and kill everything. It's pretty safe. Unless they make it a "Turn Back" zone it should always be there. EDIT : I tried it this week when I solo'd the Nightfall on a bet from a buddy. Didn't work too great. If the Knights hit you just right the splash damage might get you. Better to have teammates running around taking aggro while you sit there picking the ads off. PS ; Once you clear all the ads in the Summoning Pits they stop spawning. Giving you free reign to kill Pho however you please.

I think I speak for a lot of people when I say f*ck those "turn back" zones.
-
Yeah, it's super annoying. So much for an "open" world to explore.
-
Where is the ledge. I looked in the back left and just got killed every time.

It's basically just a small craig in the rock. You go past the artificial structure and there will be one large rock sitting on the ground but to the left of that is the actual rock. If you jump just over that rock you can say relatively hidden and pop up to fire. It's all the way near ground level, any of the higher ledges will get you killed.
