Because each exotic plays to certain skill tree perks for each characters subclass, and each subclass has it's own distinct advantages for the various game types currently available, and may even prove more useful, nay, needed/required in future gametypes/modes.
Lastly, "just because." In that, playing stagnant with no forward progression on leveling gear is way more boring than the tedious grind it already is.
Hope this helps
good points. What are some examples you think of weapons that play to certain subclasses strengths?

Balancing weapons is not necessarily the same as balancing armor perks on subclasses. *Exception: IMO, void damage gear on Hunter as Hunter has no subclass void damage attributes/ability. With that said, balancing weapon types is important for your loadout on all characters. Weapon Loadouts You need range, close quarters, and max damage. An example of two loadouts I commonly carry would be: Primary: hand cannon/scout/or pulse Secondary: shotgun/fusion Heavy: machine gun (or depending on the objective maybe a rocket. But machine guns with the right type of damage vs. The mobs/shields eats through them. I.e void in raid, and arc in this weeks nightfall.) Or: Primary: auto rifle/ pulse rifle/ hand cannon Secondary: sniper/fusion rifle Heavy: rocket (same rules apply depending on objectives regarding alternating heavys) Notes: selection is also influenced by which exotic weapons a person currently has available to them. Armor Loadouts: This section is going to be edited and updated as I add to it and perform more specific research. Apologies. As a general understanding, exotic armor pieces grant additional subclass engaging bonuses in most cases. Thus allowing you to enhance a subclass of one of your guardians and your favorite attributes of theirs. An example would be the achlyophage symbiote, helmet for hunters, and their gunslinger subclass. Last man standing is an enhancement specific to the Hunters use of their golden gun. A 4th shot will be available once this upgrade is complete and their super is charged while using their gunslinger subclass. There are dozens more between exotic and legendary armor that provide buffs to character subclasses, or even better damage in certain objectives, like raid hear and their enhancement against oracles/praetorians. The main point is, pay attention to your loadouts to MAXIMIZE your guardian's abilities/protection/damage output, and play style. Oh, and have fun while doing it!
