When another species develops a math and writing system, and can explain why if one side of the right triangle is 3 units long, and another side is 4 of the same units long, why the other side is 5 units long. Then I will claim them to be on par with conservative Christians.

You think H. sapien sapiens are the only one's that know math? Take a look around you, we are not the only one's.
-
I never said that. But I did imply we are the only ones that can extrapolate theory from data. I'm not asking an animal to show me the process of the Pythagorean theorem, I've been doing it in math classes for almost 7 years now, I know that it works. Scientists who would teach the animal to do it, especially know that it works. But here's the thing, the animal won't know why it works. And that is the gift of complicated and overlapping reasoning and logic that makes humans the master race. In addition to this, the animal have to be taught this kind of simple math, that as you can see from the comments, seems arbitrary to some. There is evidence of the formula being known before Pythagoras, but regardless, man saw a mathematical relationship, and man described and explained such relationship. Animals simply cannot do that, and humans have advanced so much as a civilization literally because of the small little ability our brains have that theirs don't. And I know that humans are animals, but simply for the reason that it's early in the morning, I'm separating them in this post, you can correct me if you want, I don't actually care if you, good day sir.

Congratulations, you can do the same math as a 12 year old

That's kind of the point... basic for us, impossible for animals (atm).

Big words are big
-
I described the Pythagorean theorem
-
No offense but they teach that in sixth grade
-
Yes I know, your point being? Animals can do math. They cannot take math and explain why it works though.
-
Id love to see an animal take the integral of any function. Thatd be very useful for me in cal2....
-
But how do we know that they can do semi-advanced math?
-
Well we know they can do simple math, this has been lab tested with gorillas, or some kind of monkey/chimp, I forgot. Which means they can learn to do semi-advance math if we can figure out a way to teach them. But they are not able to comprehend the theory behind it.
-
Chimpanzees doing our math homework? I think yes. Jk but that's pretty interesting nonetheless
-
There is no proof

Wow the US curriculum must be vastly different the the Canadian one because they touch on it in 7th grade here and go into detail in 8th.
-
I did it in 6th and almost never did it again
-
Well that's cuz Murica is beter dan da canadiens
waits for all da h8
