Here is my suggestion: go out and buy a new graphics card, but make sure to keep the receipt. When you get home, pop it into your computer. If it works, excellent! Problem solved. If not, then the hardware that is failing is your motherboard, a considerably more expensive part to replace. Return the graphics card and invest the money in a new motherboard instead. EDIT: On second thought, depending on how expensive the motherboard is, I would actually just invest in another computer. Take it from me when I say a motherboard is usually more trouble than it is worth. In addition, when a motherboard begins to die, it is a sure sign that more hardware maybe on the fritz as well.
Posted by: Antiapplekid I would reccomend using AVG For Anti-virus insead of Norton
AVG has excellent active virus protection, but if your heart is set on anything Norton, go with 2008.

Norton 360 is definately a useful tool, but like all virus protectors, it will not block them all. You will want to run routine scans on your computer, or any time you think your computer is infected. side note: Norton 360 is great, but the 2008 edition is quite exceptional. Try lowering the security on Firefox. Usually if your cookies setting is too high, things tend to slow down/not work whatsoever.

I would say then it is a viruis I would reccomend switching to firefox

No. There not spam links. Just like Bungie.net pages and YouTube videos. [Edited on 08.19.2008 10:13 PM PDT]

Does Bungie.net work really -blam!- slow on Firefox 3 for anyone? Edit: Oh, and I'm already using IE Tab. I you anything to well, to put it blatantly, make it work..yeah. [Edited on 08.19.2008 10:11 PM PDT]

Im guessing it is a spam link I would recommend using firefox Heres the link

2 reasons this could be: 1. IE 7 needs to be uninstalled and then reinstalled. It's rare, but sometimes glitches occur upon installation. 2. You have a virus on your computer. Not a dangerous one, but one of those old school prank viruses. I remember getting a virus that moved the icons around your desktop when you tried to click them. Again, not dangerous, but extremely annoying; Much like your repeating windows glitch. EDIT: The spam link could also be the issue, unless it happens for every link you click. [Edited on 08.19.2008 10:10 PM PDT]
-
I don't know if this is a "computer question" but whatever. Sometimes when I click a link once in Internet Explorer 7, it will open windows continuously until I end the program. One time I had 80+ windows open after walking away for a few minutes. Why is this? [Edited on 08.19.2008 10:07 PM PDT]
Posted by: BLIB I'm sorry to revive this thread, but I could really use some help right about now. This recent thread I posted gives the jist of what happened Basically, these recent Vista updates (17 of them!) keep trying to reinstall themselves and I don't know how to make them stop. Every time I try to shut down, there's that annoying little update icon next to the Start menu's power off button that says "Installs updates and then shuts down your computer", so I don't see any way around this. Note: I started up in safe mode, and the event viewer gave me these error codes to do with the updates; 0x800f0816 for update KB953838 (IE7 security update) 0x80242016 for update KB951072 (Vista update) 0x800f0816 again for update KB953733 (Vista update again) 0x800f0816 again for update KB950974 (Vista security update) Any help is appreciated.
I do not recognize those codes. It's rare, but sometimes Windows Updates becomes corrupted and does not properly install the updates. I have a special program that can fix that, but it is freaking massive and CD bootable only. The only advice I can give you is to try a repair install. If you boot into the installation disk that comes with vista, you should receive the option to repair the partition. WARNING: There will also be the option to replace/format the partition that is there. DO NOT DO THIS. You will lose all your data.
Posted by: AssCancer My PC, over the last few months, has been turning off when doing slightly over than normaly strenuous applications. Whenever I am trying to burn a DVD, midway through, it turns off. When I want to restart it, it beeps around 7 times in rapid succession and my monitor stays in standby mode, just as if the computer wasn't ever turned on. Sometimes days go by with the computer doing the same thing. Eventually it works, but it is turning on and working less and less. Help?
Your processor is most likely overheating. When you run a lot of application, the processor has to work that much harder to keep them running. Suggestions: -If your computer is in a crowded or unventilated area, move it. This will permit the heat to escape from the tower. -Take your computer to your nearest repair shop and have them look at it. Because your computer has failed and shutdown multiple times, you may have ruined the processor.
