Dear Sir/Madam/Genderless Forum Entity: While we appreciate that you are attempting to make a point, perhaps you would consider a counterexample. A new bar opens and people flock to the novelty. It gets some things right and misses on others. Suggestions for improvements are made, but a few patrons feel the need to vociferously complain about everything. Despite being a successful business up to this point, these patrons denigrate the owner, insult the other clientele, and constantly harp on every perceived flaw. And yet they keep frequenting the establishment. "As soon as that chain bar opens up, I'm leaving!" they proclaim. When the chain bar opens, they do indeed leave. The original bar does less business, but still continues to be profitable. In addition, it is now a much more enjoyable place for the patrons that remained.

A good counterpoint. My issue is that even if something is profitable it doesn't mean it will stay open. Someone has invested money into the new bar, however once the profits start dwindling they decide they are going to remove their financial backing from the business and get their money out, their projections of the loss of profits show that in 8 months the business will start to run at a loss. They then recoup their investment as quickly as possible and move on to something else without losing anything. Unfortunately this has deeply affected the business, they struggle to finance the business with the small amount of profit and so decide instead of risking getting into large amount of debt they will close up or sell the business without losing any money or generating debts.

  • Dear Sir/Madam/Genderless Forum Entity: That is, unfortunately, the cycle of business. Given that there are countless examples of success/failure for both catering to a core group and changing to draw in larger audiences, attempting to predict the outcome based on that is futile. The crux of your argument is community. While we agree that an unwelcoming community is detrimental to the success of a game, we do not believe that the sense of unwelcomness is coming solely from the players enjoying the game. Further, given the possibility that potential new players may be turned off by the negative views of the games detractors, we do not believe that such screeds should be allowed to continue unchecked. In fact, if people wish for Destiny to succeed, an important part of that is reminding prospective new players that not everyone despises the product. Thank you and good day.
