Thoughts on Xur - please share
I'm interested in genuine opinions on Xur, here is my take :
I think he should be removed from the game, but before you scoff and stop reading, listen to why :
I am against the argument that Xur makes exotics free - cause he does not. You have to grind coins, even with 3 chars that only yields at most 1 - 2 exotics, and getting other coins is completely random (as is the normal way of getting an exotic). So don't mistake me with some of the other people who cry that Xur = free exotics, that isn't my argument.
My argument is that I think he defeats what exotics *should be. These unattainable things that only a few people have here and there. To even get an exotic bounty you have to complete MANY many bounties, and some of the exotic bounties are crazy hard. So i'm totally ok with that...but other than that, I think exotics should be a random thing, that you can only attain by simply playing copious amounts of the game or completing the raid. They *should be something that people see and say "damn, you lucky bastard, i want that gun" Not something that people see and say "I'll work all week and get that Friday". I don't think people who buy from Xur are taking the easy way out, cause they grind just as much as anyone else, except they know what they are working for. But that is my point, I don't know if exotics are something you should be able to be guaranteed that you will get if you put X amount of work into something. I feel like that should be legendaries. If i play X crucible games, I will get enough rep to get this legendary, or if I get X amount of strange coins i can get this legendary.
Call me crazy but I feel like exotics should be significantly more rare than legendaries, and at the moment, i feel like they aren't. But I would love to hear some points of view : Should exotics be as common or just slightly less so than Legendaries? Why?

I chose exotics aren't that rare. I have had so many, at one point had more exotics than legendaries. Would be cool if you could equip more at a time, given how easy they are to get.

Every Nightfall I do I usually get STRANGE COINS not exotics which I see a lot of people who play a lot less than I do getting gifted exotics through RNG! I have taken straight noobs through VOG and Nightfall who haven't played a small fraction of what I have and they get HawkMoon, Last Word, Universal Remote , etc etc etc while the only chance I have at exotics is Xur because all I get is STRANGE COINS! I see and talk to a lot of gamers who put a lot of time into this game and some of them have 2 or 3 28's sometimes a 29 and they have found a total of ZERO exotics so they buy them. This is what a lot of Destiny Welfare RNG class doesn't understand!

4 RepliesFirst, your poll is garbage. Where is the [u]Xur is fine.[/u] option? Biased poll much? Anyways you have a misconception of what exotics are. You think they're special super snowflake weapons only a few people should have. In reality they're just weapons with "Unique" abilities, and above average statistics. Anyone should be able to pick up an exotic weapon they think would compliment their play-style. People who complain about Xur, deep down inside, are just upset other players have their "Special weapon."

Most exotics are no better than normal Legendaries, the only buff above that is their special power like lingering damage, rockets that track targets, get a little healed when you kill someone with this gun. Exotic may not be the best name choice (Unique would have fit better but doesn't sound as cool), but on a long enough timeframe and with enough patience everyone could get them from RNG or get the bounties. Xur helps ensure players with Jobs and Families don't have to play for 2 years to get their first exotic.

People who grind for coins DON'T know what they're getting cause nobody knows what xur has until he shows up. They hope for the best like everyone else.

Xur is fine and a normal thing to have in a game where loot is totally rng, you need to let people obtain stuff since there are people (myself included) that rng seems to hate.

If exotic weapons were actually noticeably better than legendaries, I would agree. Being that most exotics are just legendaries with cool names and a yellow background, I don't think it makes much of a difference.

3 RepliesWith the kind of drooping rate that we have right now, that depends almost of your luck, I don't see any Problem with Xur. In my case I have to buy from him my exotic chest armour, because after two weeks grinding the best that i could get was a Legendary Helmet, So keep Xur.

Xur only sells exotics I got the week before or gives them to me the crucible match right after I just spent my coins. Xur not only has the system rigged. Xur is the system.

I'm not calling this and MMO, but in games where loot is important, eventually everyone will have the same gear/exotics! No matter what, it's just how long it takes everyone to gain access to it, I like Xur, because he allows me to gain a new exotic for my collection every week!

2 RepliesBut it is all just so much bragging and ego boosting.... There is no P2P economy so it really does not matter. Likewise, Exotic =/= Best choice for all. I love my favorite weapon, no matter how many people use it.

I got my first exotic 3 weeks after launch and that was truth but I have purchased the range finder helmet from xur and felt bad that I didn't earn it now all I will buy are weapon boosters and maybe the mods multi tool if it comes on sale

2 RepliesBesides. What's the difference from getting an exotic after a strike or engram than buying it from xur? Coins and exotics come from the same rng. There's no skill in acquiring an exotic. It's all luck.

3 RepliesI wouldn't have any exotics without him. I play my ass off and watch those around me get exotic drops. Until last night I had either paid for them or worked for them. The Vault showed its grace and gave me the scout rifle along with the Epilogue (not exotic but quite a few people expressed jealousy).

Exotics are not supposed to be rare. They're supposed to be as common as legendary gear with unique characteristics. And for -blam!-s sake you can only have 2 on at any given time who cares

1 ReplyEdited by finalvincent21: 10/22/2014 1:05:04 PMXur is the balance to the atrocious RNG loot system You can only have one of each equipped at a time, the exotics are meant to "cap" builds, to make more unique and complex builds, look at your play style and try to "cap" your build with an exotic to put you over the top Xur doesn't ruin this experience he enhances it.
