Okay now hear me out, the D Pad is fun! We can dance, point, sit, etc... But what if it had another use? A hotkey system ? Ill explain. So lets say you can reassign what each D Pad button does? Like ammo synthsis since its takes FOREVER to open the inventory. Or even a gun swap? Maybe the map is too small for sniping so you want to quickly switch to a shotgun OR you just used your shotgun and see somebody in the distance that you want to snipe! The D Pad hotkey system would solve these problems. Also it would be extremely useful in PvP as well. So I petition to put in a feature to reassign the D Pad to whatever we want! Also, keep the current actions too because we may want to switch back.
Ideas? Suggestions?
EDIT: Thanks DeeJ for reading and taking the time to comment on this topic. Us, as fans of the game love to know our ideas are being listened to and being taken into consideration!

Easy to imagine. It's a cool idea. Thanks.

Edited by Dan J Huls: 10/15/2014 3:39:09 PMI said something like before, 2 load-outs to swap between, and ammo synths option of some sort, maybe the select button to bring up the ghost menu and having some options. Going to the main menu to switch or use ammo is ridiculously long, watching items just spin as they load....
-
hold down on the Dpad then hit square, x, o or triangle for various ammo or other things.

Just hold down the d-pad for the social cues while tapping the d-pad could bring up whatever was assigned to that particular button

I agree with the hot-key system. Mainly for raiding. I don't want to pull up a menu screen in the middle of hard mode Vault of Glass to use heavy ammo synthesis and possibly get smashed by a charging Praetorian... Call me a whiner if you want, but this would be something I'd like to see. Hot-keys for raids/strikes, emotes for Tower.

I like the idea. The D pad could be made more practical. It wouldn't be hard to implement it either into the game. I was thinking since clicking in the right stick isn't mapped to anything else, it should switch between D pad menus. Taking from the other ideas here, clicking it in would cycle between Social, Weapons, Consumables, and Ammo Synths. As you clicked it, it would display the menu you're in via a word in the corner, and then you can select what's mapped to that position. It would cycle through and through if you missed your menu, and the cycle would reset and disappear after a couple seconds of not using it. Mapping it to the right stick would be practical, since it has no previous use (that I know of). Social: Nothing would change here. Weapons: This would be difficult to implement since you can only have one exotic equipped at a time. But for true MMO players like myself, we can manage the multiple hotkey combos to remove one exotic to equip another. A simple warning such as the one in the menu stating, "You can only have one exotic equipped at a time." would remind us. I say for simplicity sake, two guns per gun type can be hotkeyed, allowing you to easily switch between the two. You know the guns you need for a specific mission/strike, so there's no need to hotkey all of your weapons. Press a direction for the corresponding weapon type, it will select the other favorited weapon, and carry on. 3 weapon types, 3 mappable buttons. All you would have to do is in the menu select an option to favorite it (as another poster said), and it will switch. Also for simplicity sake, each weapon type should be preassigned by Bungie to a button. Adding the level of customization that allows us to assign which gun type to which button is unnecessary. Like the social emotes; I feel no need to switch out the hotkeys for those. Consumables: I feel it would be nice to add those glimmer consumables to the menu. 4 enemy types, 4 buttons. Preassigned for simplicity by Bungie. No need for us to assign them or anything. If you have Ether Seeds, then pressing and holding just like in the menu will activate it. If you don't have it, a warning will display. If you have that consumable active, a warning will display saying it's already active. No need to waste one. Ammo Synthesis: Same as the previous two. Preassigned, pressing and holding will use it, not having one would display a warning, etc. I feel like if we make it simple, sacrificing a little bit of customizing ourselves to let Bungie handle it, would make this project attainable. Yes, there will be some people who forget what's assigned to what at first, but hey, that happened at first with the social buttons. I've danced many times trying to point to a chest for someone. But in time, we would memorize them. Adding counters for the time remaining on ammo synths and glimmer consumables would be nice, but I don't feel it's necessary. Just my input on the topic.

An even simpler method to solve this issue would be to have a HOLD X/SQUARE prompt when a weapon has no reserve ammunition remaining. Similar to summoning your sparrow or going to orbit. Keep your Dpad emotes, skip the hassle of opening the inventory screen. Problem solved.

Edited by Whaaa Bahh: 10/14/2014 3:22:47 AMNO NO NO! If anything the d-pad should just be 4 different dance moves so we can mix and match

Fantastic idea.

Liking it. Also for those ps4 users, maybe the touch pad can be used too? Like for example: swipe up to use your primary ammo synthesis. And swipe down for special ammo.
-
Really like the "hold reload button to use synthesis" and ammo type specific cooldown ideas. Would be a huge improvement over the current system.

Edited by Barbatos: 10/12/2014 11:07:33 PMI would love an alternative to pulling up the menu to use ammo synthesis. When I run out of heavy ammo on a weekly strike boss I pray my teammates have my back covered. I dread that the reason my team was wiped was due to me being in the menu.
-
I didn't understand from week 1 why dancing and sitting is more important then taking ammo while in the middle of a nightfall strike where you could orbit back when you die...
-
How about you hd down the top d pad button to bring up the emote options and then the other 3 d pad options are free to assign !
-
Edited by shipo: 10/13/2014 6:17:42 PMI agree, in the d pad needs a more functional use.
-
I've always thought the DPad can be used in 3 ways; Game mode (ammo packs), social (dancing, waving, pointing) and more (extra emotes). You would hold DOWN for just 2 seconds which would bring up a menu and allow you to change between the modes, or go to more and select a different emote. When you start a game, just hold down, select game, and voila ammo packs are now left/up/right. Go to the tower or want to dance? Just hold down, select social, and the dpad goes back to what we know now.

I agree with the ammo synthesis idea, but strongly disagree with the special weapon swap. When you select your special weapon, you are making a choice to have certain advantages and certain disadvantages. The shotgun wrecks at close range and good at medium, but is useless at long. The sniper is phenomenal for cross map picks, but can be difficult to use point blank. The fusion rifle is great at medium range and is a one shot kill, but has a charge time. It's just poor design to have all these advantages at all times with the use of a hot key. I'll take hotkey'd consumables though, that's for sure.

Genius. Also, I remember playing you in pvp. Got my ass stomped. Lol

Something like this http://www.plaatjesdump.nl/upload/e78dab0f0becb803de2d812478f9eabc.png ?

Okay so read a few suggestions by far holding down reload is the best option for the current equipped weapon, and someone also said what I was thinking, which is please make the cool down only for its current ammo applied not all ammo's. And can someone please tell Eva to make some diffrent shaders is she color blind or something it's been a month and she's still cooking up the same batch of colors. The cryptarch got his crap together now we need to move on to the other ppl in the tower. And I mean everyone FWC, VANGAURD, Crucible, dead orbit list goes on just something new even if it's only 1-2 days a week to get a special random color or item not seen before
-
I don't mind how it is to be honest, all I want is to only have a 5 minute cool-down between each type of synthesis not a 5 minute for any. So primary, special and heavy get their own cooldown each...
-
I like it though having that changes having a selection of 3 guns into a selection of 7. I like the idea of the ammo and stuff but then having only one exotic equips would mean nothing if you can mix and match instantly
-
Really good idea. Since virtually no one use the animations anymore, that'd be super useful.
