Elements, shields, and damage penalties

Hi Everyone, Here are some elemental tips and level damage stats for running around PVE. From http://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/2h9t6b/this_is_how_light_levels_affect_your_gameplay_and/ 4 lvl or lower below mob: 100% damage penalty 3 lvl below mob: ~52% damage penalty 2 lvl below mob: ~42% damage penalty (guesstimate since I didn't have the gear to put me to lvl 22) 1 lvl below mob: ~32% damage penalty 0 lvl below or higher than mob: 0% damage penalty For enemies with shields, you will do bonus damage to the shield if you match the element (headshots and mission modifiers will also take a shield down fast). You will know the element by the color of the glowing aura surrounding the enemy (the white shield bar is just the shield's 'health'). Once you get the shield down, swapping to a kinetic primary is fine as you'll save your secondary ammo and you won't do extra damage with the element once the shield is gone. --Arc (snowflake ninja star)-Causes shock damage. Enemies with this shield will have a bluish glow and when you match the element, you'll see blue numbers ticking for the elemental damage. Enemies that tend to have this shield-fallen captains, harpies --Solar (the flame)-Red/orange glow. Potential enemies-shanks, hive wizards, cabal centurion --Void (swirly purple vortex)-purple glow. Potential enemies-praetorian, minotaur, psion --Kinetic (caltrop in a donut)-no element, causes base damage; default for most primary weapons
