I think most long barrel guns in Destiny, especially Snipers and MGs, are hybrids of conventional and mass driver arms tech. /nerdiness
As much as I love mass drivers, they would run into the same problems that Snipers had in playtesting: a long range Heavy in a CQC metagame. Even if new, marksmen friendly maps were added, you'd have to charge the shot and keep your victim in your reticle while ADSing and looking like a Christmas tree from across the map. I doubt you could kill all but the noobist noobs with such a gun. If you want all precision all day, I'd rather have Scout Rifles buffed (which is happening anyway), move Snipers to Heavy and HCs to special, and give them more maps to work with.

I think his idea for the charge time is wrong - it should act more like the covenant sniper in halo - get one shot, let it cool, then insta fire like a normal sniper - holding in the button for 2.5 seconds sounds a little much for me
