He is one of my favorite reviewers and his points about this game definitely align with many or all of my own. It is sad to say that I completely agree with him on Destiny.

Well I tend to not put much stock in his reveries because they seem like more comedy then actual constructive criticism. Not to mention all the game play that you'll see in his review is not him at all it's one of his friends who manly plays World of Tanks lol. I watched his twitch channel quite a bit, and the guy was trashing the game from day one saying "I can't wait until I'm done playing this for joes review" In the end tho people shouldn't be looking too other people to decide what's fun for them. I mean just look at th reviewed CoD gets, and that games been recycled trash for awhile IMO

I always took his reviews as brutally honest or unreserved, the fact that it was entertaining was simply a bonus to me. As for the specifics to how he writes or does his reviews I cant really comment on that. I do watch his reviews to compare his developed opinion to my own, to gain a better understanding. Here is a piece I wrote long before his review came out to demonstrate my point if your curious. Although I do understand the importance of what you are getting at. http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/69208002/0/0/1

Edited by Retro_Spective: 9/21/2014 7:14:46 PMlol thank you xvirgil, I never knew that, but I had a feeling his reviews where not his own... it's all about getting as many views as possible on his channel, I can't really blame him for that :)
-
His reviews always come out after the big gaming sites... He just reads them all and bases his final decision on what he has read, how communities feel about them in my opinion, gives negative reviews most of the time for extra views on his channel ;) The only review that should be important is your own, how you feel about a game.

Complete hypothesis but nice try.

Yes they do tend to come out later on however I don't believe he simply reads other reviews and then parrots it. The production and his thorough deconstruction of the issues with video games simply convinces me otherwise and with the freedom he has from being independent allows him to be honest. You believe his is simply being overly negative in his reviews but it is more likely that other reviewers are simply being more reserved due to their image and ties to the gaming industry no?. Although he is famous for being angry and that is most certainly to help attract viewers I don't think I can blame him for doing his job well if that were the case. As for my opinion I formed it long before I started looking into reviews and even wrote a piece of feedback detailing everything I thought about the game (of course this is for the beta but I refuse to edit it for consistency and because many of my points/issues are still present in the game anyway). I linked it if you are curious. Overall I generally formulate my own opinion then actively compare it with other sources to determine its accuracy. http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/69208002/0/0/1

Yes I read your thread a few months ago bro, you do bring up some great ideas on how to improve the PvE, but you also have to accept the fact that most of it would not be possible with the limitations of the old gen hardware... The crucible is where this game excels and the core gunplay is excellent, i do admit that it's currently lacking content. Destiny will improve as time goes on, has good foundations laid down. The game is currently an 8/10 for me, this review is the most measured, rational one I've seen, if you're interested... Link below http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-09-17-destiny-review

Yeah with the limitations of the old consoles I agree that at least the part about more dynamic environments would probably not be possible, with the next gen depending on how they implemented it the idea was possible but I digress. As for the crucible I do enjoy it and agree it is probably Destinys strongest feature to a degree however I do notice that it is lacking many features that are incredibly useful to multiplayer. I really do believe that the game will improve (to some extent) over the long run however I paid under the impression that there would be a game (of sufficient quality) and that it would be added to over the course of time. I cannot abide by publishers releasing an unfinished game and then making it as they go along to deliver whatever content they so chose. I chose to believe in destiny in the alpha, beta and final copy but it has done nothing to convince me that the issues I have will change with time and it certainly doesn't deserve my trust with the material it has presented me thus far. I'm being as fair as I can be. As for your review I don't think it covers negative points well enough, it states that they are lacking but really fails to deconstruct and explain why, with loot being a perfect example. He does mention the randomness of some drops but fails to explain that the gear is very much the same and in some cases exactly the same all the way through the game (angry joe has a perfect example of this). It is overall extremely reserved in discussing the issues that should be brought up with this game. Perhaps it is just me, but if you love playing Destiny by all means enjoy it.

If the faulty unbalanced crucible is where it excels at then there may be a problem.
-
Most online fps are unbalanced when they come out, that's why nerfs, buffs happen... It's only 2 weeks old, give it time.
-
Agreed, my favorite reviewer.

Edited by 101WaysToBeBronze: 9/21/2014 3:33:18 PMThe way he constructively and entertainingly manages to deconstruct the positive and the negative elements of the game just makes him stand out. His work is as enlightening as it is amusing.

Yea, I hope he just keeps getting more and more popular, so his word means more for the gaming world, when companies try to screw us over.
-
So you agree with his review, yet you have 85 hours put in?
-
This game is fun man, Imma go home after work and play somemore, but the story is horrible. Even joe says the game is fun, but so much lost potential.
-
I agree it's fun, that's why I feel a 6/10 is harsh.
-
I myself would not give it more then a 7, rinse and repeat missions of guard the ghost while you have waves of enemies come at you, Horrible story, bad pvp netcode.
-
You're entitled to your own opinion.

For sure. It would be refreshing to have a recognized video game critic in the industry that isn't afraid to tell people when a company falls below expectations and tries to rip people off with it.
