Character self awareness (Or just bland writing.)

When I was playing through Venus and got to the mission where we need to find the Awoken to get to the Garden, my Character (who is Awoken as well) didn't think for a second she might be seeing more of her kind (if there weren't that many on the Tower). Heck, it might even be the same for the other races. What I was thinking, was that maybe they could have fleshed out the character (even if it is just some pawn) more or just gave the characters dialogue unique to their races. Example (From the first Venus mission): Ghost: "Bla bla bla find Awoken bla bla Rift bla bla" Awoken: "You mean more people like me?" Ghost: "Bla bla bla find Awoken bla bla Rift bla bla" Human: "The Blue guys? I've always wondered where they come from." Ghost: "Bla bla bla find Awoken bla bla Rift bla bla" Exo: "More of them? Beep boop, count me in!"

  • the whole writing seems to know how bad it is... example in the archive(i think) on venus... you get an interesting name, an facility and our ghost is immedialy like: "doctor shim? doesn't matter" ... which seems like most stuff of the story:rasputin is important, then he isn't, then he is again and in the end you kinda forget him. that might just be my guess but it's basicly as if you read the third book of a 5 book-long story. all the new stuff get's intruduced to you and then thrown away as the world seems to know it all already or more will happen later.

    • I mean, you were risen from the dead with no knowledge of the world around you to start the game. I think it's safe to assume you forgot who your people were, or the people you did know when you were alive are long dead

      • This game is an rpg, so unless they introduce dialogue choices like in bio ware games, it's safer to have a strong silent character. You can add the dialogue you want.

      • As an Exo I take offense to the "Beep boop" comment we are mostly self aware, not simple robots like those vendors at the tower. On a more constructive note I agree that your character should be a little more self aware of what race they are. Such as perhaps upon seeing the stranger for the first time as an Exo you mention the similarity in race.

        • I think Bungie did actually cover this loophole. You see Awoken who went back to Earth/fought alongside Humanity were considered Exiles and no longer welcome in The Reef. (That said: You would THINK the Queen would say SOMETHING to an exile. Like: How DARE you insult me with your presence?!)

I would prefer if the different races didn't have the same introduction, if "you've been dead for a looong time" long enough you don't understand whats happening I don't think out of coincidence you're an Awoken that just happens to be on earth before the Darkness arrived. Same with the Exo's. They should begin on Venus as Runaways/ resistance members agains the Robotic Race there. To be honest If I was an Awoken, (which I will be when i max and restart my Warlock) I would want to serve the Awoken Queen.

          • I like this. It reminds me of how in skyrim if you chose orc you were welcomed in to the orc villages, but other races had to do a quest first. It makes sense that your character (if he/she is awoken) would recognize that they are amongst their own. It would also be cool if they treated you more respectfully because you're one of them.

            • Maybe being Awoken would also make the queens brother less of a douche also. I play a human, so it makes since for him to be a giant bag of dicks. But why treat a fellow Awoken like that?
