The Centipede and Your University.

Hey, Bungie Community. Day One of Destiny is behind us. We’re still hard at work to make sure all of you have a great experience. Thanks in part to chatter on our forums, we’re aware of some networking issues being experienced on college and university campuses. Our team is engaged in diagnosing the cause, but you might also be able to help. Members of the Bungie team will be contacting some of you directly to troubleshoot. Keep an eye on your Bungie.net inbox to see if you’ve been drafted as a test subject. If you don’t hear from us, we still love you and we’re still working to get you into orbit. Please continue to report any issues you experience on this forum. Watch this space for updates. UPDATE 1.0: We’re making progress toward a solution to the university network issue. A potential cause are security devices that don’t recognize Destiny network traffic. We’re in touch with the manufacturers of these devices to create an update that we hope will enable you to play. Stay tuned as work on this continues. In the meantime, it might be a good idea to learn the contact information for your network administrator. Stand by! UPDATE 2.0: We have isolated the issue and are working with security device manufacturers to release a fix this coming Monday, September 15th. Affected universities will need to apply the patch from the security device vendor to fix the problem. Once the patch is released, we’ll add details to this thread that you can forward to your network administrators. Stand by, be brave, and have a nice weekend. [b]UPDATE 3.0: We have determined the cause at the root of most of the issues being encountered on university campuses. We have been in touch with network admins at most of the universities listed on this forum (thanks again for helping us help you). In summary, there are network security devices that have been incorrectly identifying Destiny traffic as a bit-torrent. We have also reached out the manufacturers of the security devices in question. They've been awesome, and have released an update that will allow you to play on a network protected by their hardware. That update will need to be applied by your local network administrators, assuming they have not done this already.[/b] If you would like to put us in touch with the people in charge of your network, tell them to email us at universitynetworks@bungie.com, or provide us with their contact information. Do not post it here! We'll be working to solve every issue that blocks a Guardian from the Tower. Keep posting on this forum.

    • Florida International University still not working as of 1:30 PM today. The good folks at Bungie were nice enough to reply to my email however.       • ITS NOT JUST UNIVERSITY CAMPUSES! get your heads out of your asses and communicate with your customers. I was kicked from the game world 28 times yesterday and today i cant even get past the character screen without getting "Vulture." well guess what error code vulture? i AM signed in and i DO currently have Xbox live! so its refund time.

      • Trinity College, Hartford Connecticut just won't access the update servers. I put the disc in, it says it needs an update 309mb, and then I say install, it says added to queue, and then just isn't in the queue. Tried multiple times putting the disc back in, restarting the Xbox, everything I can think of...... Someone help please this is starting to feel like I wasted my money

      • Keene State College is up and running! I meant to post a few days ago, but Destiny is now working. The IT department received the patch and a few hours later it was online. Thank you for your persistence Bungie. People give you guys a lot of shit but most devs probably would not have responded like you have to this issue.

      • University of Mississippi. I contacted the IT Department and got this email back: "The Destiny servers use the same ports that P2P file sharing programs use. These ports are blocked for a reason, to prevent users using the Ole Miss network to pirate software or other copyrighted material. While I'm sure the networking team is looking into a solution, we have no ETA for a fix." Need your help, Bungie. Got to play the game on the first day, and on the following day I got the centipede error code.

        • I've been getting Centipede too and I'm in a house, no University. Xbox live will still be connected but the game boots me to my ship. That's on your end Bungie. Played Beta and bought the game day 1, didn't expect not being able to play.

            [b]Temple Update 3: So There Are Miracles After All...[/b] So... while I'm not confirming that the patch has been applied everywhere on campus, a fair amount of people (including myself) have been successful in reaching the tower! Big thanks to our head of security for really going at it when all hope (and the help desk) seemed lost. Not to mention the vocal students around me that really went at them hard. Also, and I know I've been rough on them over the past week, Bungie as well. While not the most vocal of individuals, they were working with Temple the entire time to help get things straight. Have to say, that's pretty bloody amazing that they (a game developer) were able to reach out to a University and work together. Seems the 7 step plan is still on after all. [u]If you're a Temple student and still can't get on please comment![/u] Now, lets work on getting other Universities up as well! No one is getting left behind.

              • I've successfully logged in at the University of Central Missouri (UCM). Everyone else, give it a shot. I haven't actually gotten to play yet, thanks to this darn "classes" thing, but guess what I'll be doing nonstop when I'm done? Finally. Best of luck to everyone else, as well. It blows to be left out. Hope we're all fixed up soon.

                  • I've been able to get to level 6 but about every five or six minutes it goes out at Southern Illinois University . It's starting to get really tiring when I get kicked out six times on the same moon mission. #help

                  • Wilmington College of Ohio is still receiving the centipede error code Every time we attempt to load the game. I'm not sure what to do, my roommate has email the head of our I.T. department and bungie trying to get them in contact with each other and still no reply or helpful advise.

                  • Hope that this update has helped most of this amazing community. I am a student at Shepherd University in the eastern panhandle of WV. I have had the Centipede error since day one, and was not even able to be a part of the Alpha or Beta testing for the game. I've had about 3 hours of play time because I was able to take my PS4 to my hometown and play on my home network, and this makes me a very sad panda. I hope that Bungie has an accurate list of all the Universities that have been effected with this unfortunate problem. My question for the community is if there is an official list of Universities that Bungie has been working with to get this problem fixed, and if so where would I find it and how can I add Shepherd University to this list if it is not already currently on it. Thanks guys. gg

                    • Bungie/DeeJ still have non stop BEE errors. I've tried everything within my power to fix it but it won't. You need to increase the packet loss time gap by quite a bit. From what I can tell that's what everyone is pointing towards as the source of the problem.
