technically even that is two (and really more than that) as english is a fusion of other languages and most of its rootes come from a combination of German and Latin. American's also use colloquial phrases from other cultures and languages all the time so depending on what level of fluency you are talking about...'American' could be as many as a couple dozen languages.

Incorrect.

yes...you are. do some research and learn your shit. it all depends on how in depth you want to take it, but most American's are at least partially bilingual and terms from other languages are used in every day conversation...but you must have gone to a California public school so you wouldnt know about any of that.

No, you are incorrect. American is not a language. Americans speak English. "American" is an accent, a vague one at that. Being bilingual in America is by no means a valid point to this argument. Many people in many countries speak two languages. None of which would be American. I have studied in the UK, Greece and the American Academy in Cyprus. I could, however, be wrong. I've been wrong before and I could be wrong again right now. Would you be kind enough to point me in the direction of a course where I could learn "American" as a language?

please look up and check the original comment...he didnt say 'people who speak the language known as american'...he said "I only play with people speaking american". the question under it in that context is asking how many root languages make up the american 'dialect' (probably the closest term to what it actually is as 'amerian' is far more than just an accent).
