Hi everyone! :)
I've been delaying the purchase of Destiny, until I finally couldn't resist any longer... therefore I didn't have the opportunity to play the Beta *Bummer*
Do you guys have any suggestions/tips/websites I should know or have a look at, to be able to start as smooth as possible on 9/9? (without spoiling anything) :p

I'm in the same boat. I must have watched all the Beta videos on youtube by now. Never played but I already know the character creation by heart, and already know exactly the characters I'm going to make. LOL Watch them with commentary too, it's fun.

Yeah. Get destiny. Enjoy.

3 RepliesEdited by kellygreen45: 9/4/2014 1:39:44 PM1. Ignore the negative talk. Most of the people are either trolls, or had ridiculously unreasonable expectations. This is going to be the biggest, best game of the year...and probably the game of the decade. Its' THAT good. Coming from a guy who's not really that big of a shooter fan. 2. Check out YouTube. MoreConsole and DestinyUpdates both have a good "What We Know" that is a very good *primer* on the game. Its story. Who the classes and enemies are..and the basics of the game. DattoDoesDestiny and RFN Network have good videos that are good player guides. Datto's channel is more about the PvE side of the game. RFN ("Byf") is more about the PvP side of the game. Both channels give good gear guids. Arrekz Gaming is another channel that has good gear related Destiny content. Basic playing tips: a. Titans are best suited for players who like fighting up close, in the middle of things, and want character who can take a beating. Hunters are precision damage specialists. Good at long-range and close-in, hit-and-run fighting. Somewhat weak in the mid-range. Warlocks are glass-cannon, hit-and-run fighters. Good at mid-range, their class-based attacks (Supers) do a LOT of AoE damage....but they can't take much damage, and are weak in close-range/melee encounters. b. The AI in this game is smart. If you stand out in the open and try to trade fire with enemies...they'll kill you pretty quickly. You have to either work from cover....or stay moving if you want to work out in the open. c. In PvP, camping is a BAD strategy. The vertical movement makes it difficult to find places to hide where you can cover all the possible routes. Plus the radar makes it very difficult for other players NOT to have a pretty good idea of where you are. Stay in motion. Know your weapon, and control your distances. Players who come to The Crucible expecting to play like Halo or CoD...are going to be in for a pretty nasty surprise. Shotguns dominate in close. Auto-rifles dominate up colse to mid-range. Scout rifles dominate mid-to-long range. Sniper rilfes, long range obviously. Both the HC and the PR were badly underpowered in the beta, so well have to see what they are like after the promised buffs...and the auto rifles getting a nerf. (Two of the auto rifles had pretty ridiculously low recoil and high fire rates in the beta...and msot people figured out pretty quickly that they were the weapons to have at anything other than long range.

The main thing is choosing what class you want to play as. Once you figure that out, you should explore and discover destiny all by yourself my friend

In addition to big Youtubers already mentioned... Mesa Sean Gaming Channel covers quite a bit on Destiny. Would advise staying away from the COD Fanboy sites. Everything that I have heard so far is over critical and/or uniformed diatribes.

1 ReplyAvoid all the negative talk on these forums. A lot of them are trolls, but not all of them. Since you haven't played the Beta, it may be difficult to tell. Make your own opinion come September 9th.
The Cake is a Lie
Also for PvP learn to use your radar. It is very different from others fps's!
-
Try to enjoy every aspect of the game and don't focus all of your attention in a single gametype!
-
Don't spend to much time at lower levels choosing which weapons and armor to wear because you will find better weapons and armor with almost every story mission. So I wouldnt spend my glimmer (currency) early on buying armor and weapons unless it is a much better and you're having difficulty finishing story missions.

Edited by MULLERTJE: 9/3/2014 9:25:12 PMYoutube; DattodoesDestiny has good info and I like TheRadBrad for his funny Alpha and Beta vids. DestinyPlanetViewer is also a nice way to get some info, it launched yesterday

My ownly suggestion is use cover, and stay far from the red lasers

Depends on your experience as an fps player. At the start look at your sensitivity, this makes you turn faster. Recommend you do not use default unless you have to. Least try out the others.
-
Use your abilities often so they level faster. When you use your super while in a fireteam try to devastate the largest amount of enemies as possible so as to generate the maximum number of orbs of light. These orbs will allow your friends to charge their Supers. Watch for the orbs your friends drop to charge yourself back up! This is a very powerful mechanic when implemented effectively.

2 RepliesI've moved your thread to #Destiny to help aid your discussion. #Help is more so for help of a technical nature with Bungie.net or Destiny, or for Bungie.net feedback :)

Honestly you won't be too lost. The game does a great job showing you the ropes. To be honest those of us who played the beta were pretty much only shown the ropes. There were teases of greater depth, but due to the level cap, were were only allowed to explore only so much. The way I see it is if you get the right group of friends you will be in good shape.
-
2 RepliesTry to get to level 20 asap ;), then start chasing after your favorite armourset. Don't forget to try different kinds of weapons to find out what suits you best.
-
Enjoy a virgin experience.

sit back and enjoy :)
pure cheese
My primary advice is that Hand Cannons aren't that bad. Also use supers. I didn't use them enough because I thought I should save them. Supers recharge quickly enough to not worry about them.
-
Devil Walker TIP: Those tank that has three legs, shoot at one leg only until it breaks then shoot a glowing red brain that pops out. Do this until at least 3 legs are gone.
-
Very easy to get into. Only advice I have is once you unlock your super don't try and hold onto it for some boss. You will get it back within 3 mins of using it so have a blast. Oh and don't dance on side of cliffs. People can push you off.
