This is something that I am also concerned about! I have attended many midnight releases to come right home and start playing, so why would Destiny be different? I live on the east coast and I was considering a digital copy instead of going to get the game at midnight, but all the talk of not playing the digital copy until 3am EST makes no sense to me. If I purchase a digital copy and live on the east coast then I should have access to the game, considering I can drive 10 mins down the road and buy a physical game and play. I hope that we get some more clarification on what the deal is.

Bungie has made it clear the servers will go online the minute it is 9/9 anywhere in the world. New Zealand is +16 hours from EST. That means if you had a physical copy of Destiny on 9/8, you could play the game because the servers will be on. However, Activision has stated if you have the digital edition you will not be able to play Destiny until midnight PST. • the retailers nationwide will be selling the physical game at midnight release in their respective timezones. However, everyone will still have to wait for the servers to be up at 12am PST to go online, being a online only game, we must wait for the servers to be up. Even if you get a physical copy at 12am EST, you'd still have to wait til 3am EST to be able to play it because that 12am PST.

  • See this link. The servers will go online the minute it hits 9/9 at the international date line, which is +19 hours PST. You can play it on Monday if you have a physical copy. • I think that the downloaded copy unfortunately will not be available until midnight PST. You can pre-load before then, but cannot play it until 2 or 3 AM EST.

  • oh boooo whats point of being able to download it directly to the console of you have to wait hours after everybody that got the physical copy can play it anyways? especially if I load it 2 days early... that sucks

  • That I couldn't exactly tell you as I don't remember the reasoning behind what I read. I'd surmise it'd have to deal with the fact that people who downloaded it could play it on 9/8...technically before it hit 9/9 on their time zone. Yes, the servers go online and anyone can play that has a physical copy, and yes Bungie won't punish you. Unless you're reviewing the game you shouldn't have a physical copy, that doesn't mean some retailers won't break street date. I suppose they just wanted a consistent time that people in the States would have it "unlock."

  • Hey no problem! I do think that the digital edition is the best bang for the buck. If I didn't get the Ghost edition I'd have strongly considered buying digital. See you starside fellow Guardian! May the Traveler guide and protect you.

  • I am not sure the reasoning why. I don't have a link but I know I read that.
