You know, you can call me what you want, but I have never understood the whole 'furry' thing. I'm not sure where it originated from or why the want to have human-like features to animals. Animals are perfect the way they are, and in my opinion, do not need human qualities to be beautiful. We humans are, at least in the biological sense, as perfect as any other animal: just the thought of all the processes that go on inside the body at all times is amazingly perfect!! Please enlighten me as to this love of seeing animals as humans and vice versa. Is it a psychological topic that develops in infancy? Is there a certain chemical response in the brain? Is it perhaps a learned behavior from an enculturation stand-point? I am completely lost...why re-create bodies into a juxtaposition of different species? The only experience I have had is 'furries' humping each other in costume or trying to flirt with me in full 'mascot' garb which I found very upsetting and traumatic...

  • Cuz you cant stick your dick in a animal... However, humans with animal quality's are weird, like demon chicks, and hot. http://img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130325044714/factpile/images/9/90/Darkstalkers-morrigan_wallpaper_by_artgerm.jpg

  • why mix body types together? its called art, like mixing fruits and meats to make a dish. people draw/ dress up these things to creat a fictional character.

  • Sorry to hear about that experience, but you can't judge the whole fandom/community based on a few individuals. For me, Furry is a external outlet for parts of my psyche that my human form doesn't convey, if i draw an artwork of myself, in the same way that Henry VIII Posed with mathematical tools and instruments to make him appear smart, I appear as a Wolf, as that outwardly reflects my ferocity, determination, and my 'lone wolf style' of going about things. It's kind of like when people associate themselves with spirit animals or star signs, which is something that's been going on since.. well, as long as we've been able to consiously and inwardly look upon ourselves! some people go further and take the aspect of their characters through stories, art, music, role play, or going about wearing furry ears or a full suit, but that's what it is.

  • I see! So it is an outward reflection of a psychological and emotional state (for lack of a better word that comes to mind at this time) that encompasses character traits that are most commonly associated with a specific animal. Is the above somewhere close to it?

  • For me at least, yes! We have Brave Lions, Cunning foxes, Fiercesome Dragons, man has been identifying and associating traits and visual forms since the dawn of time. To some, they are just that, an 'Avatar' of oneself, but again Furry is a vaaast community, it'll mean different things to different people, and for a community that's largely made up of creative people, story tellers, Artists (music and visual), roleplayers.. It's not suprising to see that people express themselves in so many different manners. To me, my avatar is me as I strive to be, most acted out when say, I play online games like Halo, to others they are those friends that we've grown up from our childhood that we've never let go, to others furry is the outward appreciation of nature, to others it's just a way that they can entertain and make people smile... Can't speak for the whole community, all people all walks of life all interests hobbies talents ambitions and dreams, all linked by something so simple as an appreciating, inventing, or simply in my case, identifying with anthropomorphic animals... That's furry :3

  • Thank you very much!!! I feel like I have a grasp (albeit very small) of this sub-culture. It is great to be able to speak to someone that is part of the community in this manner, as I have told someone else before, because it feels that the information is much more accurate. Not to mention that specific questions can be asked to appreciate a better understanding of the topic!

  • I am a fur for two reasons. Physical appearance and depicted attitudes. I do not like the full fleshy form of human beings and I find it unsettling to be attracted to animals. I do however love the cross because they're all cute and most of the time the facial expressions are happy or blissful. As for attitude, humans are always hiding something and always out to profit on everything. Human nature sickens me. In a good portion of furry comics and art they have comical conflicts and most of the serious ones end up being resolved through understanding. Everything may not end up back to "normal" but they're okay with it. Human conflict usually ends in a fight and the winner demands respect and sometimes ends up with bullying and crap and stuff. That's why I'm a fur and always will be

  • I'm confused and I don't know if I want this explained... like, you don't like the human form, but you're human? You like furry art which is humanoid?

  • It's not humanoid, it's classified as anthropomorphic. And I'm only human because nobody gave me the chance to choose my race in the character creator

  • Anthropomorphic means having human characteristics. So does humanoid.

  • But humanoid refers to more human traits where anthro refers to more animal traits

  • To be quite honest with you, I do not know any facts, merely that which I have observed and come to believe. Furry is many things. It could be a sexual attraction such as the furry cosplay bits, it could be animated images of humanoid animals, hentai, or simple drawings. I want to say this form of furry was brought about by japanese animation though I could be wrong. I have never put a lot of thought in as to why it is as it is. I expect that the reason they have human features such as breasts is simply because they walk and talk as humans, so they are given the look to represent a human while also the animal they are intended to be. It has become a popular art style in drawings not only of the sexual nature. There have been games and shows that have utilized this art style and it is most often seen as just another character now, no real meaning as to why it is a fox or a cat or a bear. That is just what I have seen and what I think on it all. The facts behind them could be completely different, but even if they are I think it is just fine the way I see it.

  • I don't think I can explain it. But I can say for sure its by no means a modern phenomenon (duh-duuuh-de-duh-duh). Pretty much all ancient cultures had deities that were anthropomorphised. And these cultures all developed seperately. Egypt, South America, Asia, and Australia all have examples I can think of just off the top of my head. So it's probably something to do with our ability to see shapes and forms in unrelated things, like shapes in the clouds and so on. The naming of constelations, land marks and animals.....I guess our brains are just hard wired to project ourselvs onto the world around us.

  • Yep, a lot, (if not all) ancient civilizations did this: my question was why. Not all of humankind falls into the sub-culture of 'furries', just like not every human believes in God...so, in this direction: what makes the new furry culture tick? Maybe I was not asking the question the right way, my apologies.

  • You are assuming that furry is equated to sexualization. Really it's just an anthropomorphic art style. It's been in video games and our culture as long as I can remember. Starfox? Furry. Snoopy? Furry. An so on.

Rofl, that last part... Humans have wanted to be animals, since... Well... since humans were humans really? It's nothing new. We see an animal, we admire it's strength, it's beauty, it's ability for flight, it's ability to swim with ease, we empathize with it, and eventually imagine what it'd be like to be them. Then it all just goes from there.Your experience with furries seems to be the creepier side of the community >.> But yeah, humans have been interested in being animals for a very very long time. Our ability to empathize with each other, and other species, is one of the main things that makes our species so unique. Edit: And uh, while some do bring it into a realm of sexualization, most do not, and most don't even identify as "furry" because the name is associated with those types by default thanks to the attention they bring. Alot of them aren't even into dressing up as animals. From what I've seen in history, we've been identifying with animals for a very very long time now. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthropomorphism http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Therianthropy

  • I completely understand this, but not the walking upright part or the human attributes given to what is already a perfect animal form. If there is respect and admiration and a keenness to be like the specific animal, why not love it and want to be like it in all its natural beauty? Does a lioness or crane really need human breasts?
