Destiny is about how each and every person is unique. If Bungie starts putting everyone into groups the backbone of the game will fall apart.
Here's an example: In one of the very early sneak previews that was shown there was a video of someone's HUD while a public event was starting. Everyone arrived on their own sparrow. Why? Because the events in the exploration mode are made be to dynamic so that when you see a player diving on top of a Death-Spider as I like to call them you feel a rush of adrenaline at the sight of a new team mate and not a reminder that you already asked him/her to come with you. That is the incredible difference between matchmaking and Public Destiny. Making a bunch of players pile into a single vehicle isn't very dynamic. It's like riding the bus to work. You know exactly where you are going and what you are going to do. In order for Destiny to achieve the measure of detail of character and dynamic playstyle that they have advertised I believe making the public exploration mode into a bandwagon would hurt the game more than help it.
In the area of raids and strikes It is the same idea but in a different environment. Picture six people side-by-side in their sparrows. All of them are dodging rocks and weaving in and out of passageways. The feeling of self-choice of every action a player makes is evident. That is a perfect example of what I love about Destiny. Now picture one big hover vehicle just mounding the rocks and not turning as often. Your characters might be programmed to look from side to side or look somewhere if there is weapon-fire but by contrast the larger vehicle seems so much more static don't you think?

Very well said.

thanks =P

Look I get having the sparrows only have one person on it, but it would be nice to be able to find a multi person vehicle in explore mode.
-
I'll repeat what I've been telling everyone else about this and I don't mean it in a angry way just an informative one ;) use the destinyplanetoverlook program made by Google technology and look over all of the environments quickly. Not many of them AT ALL could support a hover vehicle larger than a sparrow without it being REALLY awkward. Plus I rather drive than have someone else play the game for me. And if for some reason larger vehicles do come into Destiny THEY BETTER NOT HAVE GUNS ON THEM because I don't want buffs to vehicles in place of nerfs to my abilities. I want to be able to dish out all of the damage to kill my foes and not have to rely on anything or anyone else. Lonewolf ftw!
-
Yeah you may be all lone wolf "ftw" now, but you'll come sniffing around for a Pack when you want to take on the Glass Vault.
-
I have soloed every single "hard" mission. Yes I did some pouting but I take great pride in overcoming what others, even while in a party, cannot even begin to fight against. ^ not arrogance I am actually that good =P
-
Oh I didn't mean your not good but you MUST team up for the glass vault so speaketh lord Bubgie. Lol
-
Haha yeah I saw that post that Deej posted. Pretty serious stuff apparently! Well I hope I can solo it and there's nothing like "press these two pads at once" or anything. if there isn't I'll find a way to solo it! >=D
-
Ha! Maybe you will at that... "Wonder why a lone wolf don't run with a klan only trust your instincts and be one with the plan"
-
I understand your argument, but I think it would be fun to have vehicles with weapons for you and two friends only for use in explore mode.
-
I can see that being fun!
-
I dunno. One of Destiny's prime features is linking up with a fireteam. I was always a fan of the Halo warthog because everyone had an purpose in it. It always felt awesome to slam into some sorry bastard while your two best buds riddled everyone near you full of holes and lead.

Edited by Doc: 9/3/2014 6:08:14 PMUse the Destinyplanetoverlook program made with google that was just released and go over all of the environments. Not that many would support a vehicle larger than a sparrow. Not even pvp maps. Everything would have to be reworked. Plus I like the idea of ME killing everything with my abilities and rocket launcher rather than a vehicle with unlimited ammunition and gasoline/rocketfuel. Mass vehicles would ruin the Destiny vibe and just replace it with a shiny version of Halo. not saying that would be amazing but I would prefer Destiny be kept the way it is so I can keep blowing people up with my huge balls of disintegration instead of a spread of bullets from an unoriginal mounted heavy machine gun. main point: I would rather do it myself =)
-
But raids and fire teams are groups, so maybe there will be passenger vehicles later in the game or in the sequels
-
I feel like it would open up Pandora's Box though. I can see it happening in raids and such but even so Destiny is ALL about going solo and finding YOUR OWN destiny in the midst of every situation. It's not your destiny and 5 others at the same time it's YOUR DESTINY. It is MEANT to be soloed. (caps instead of italics because italics take too long to edit)

Edited by MightyJonE: 9/3/2014 1:05:33 AMYes, there may be vehicles only for the team missions, like raids, as I said. Personally, I don't really mind, either way It's unusual to hear you say that the game's all about you and your solo adventure, because I've read loads of posts saying the opposite, and justifying that as the reason why they disagree with those who prefer to play it alone - and even towards me, when I innocently mention that our character is the hero So your view is unusual as it doesn't seem to reflect the consensus. Btw, that's not a criticism, just an observation :)

Well Bungie has said that Destiny is played to be able to play solo OR with a group and still have fun but I am talking more about how the core of the game operates. Yes you can become part of a specific clan or fireteam but I don't like the idea of having someone else drive for me. I want to control every action I make which in turn actually makes for a more effective team if they know what they are doing. Plus one huge factor is this: in the beta there were only a HANDFUL of places where a large hover vehicle would actually fit without making the game a driving simulation for sharp turns. Look over every map with the destinyplanetoverlook program from google that just released and you will understand what I mean. Almost every Destiny environment, including pvp maps (if mass vehicles were introduced) would allll have to be reworked. Right after they were just made gold. hah. That's a good one. =P

You may be right about the size of the areas, Noah, but one important thing you have to remember: the destiny google maps aren't comprehensive - they're only a selection of some of the areas, so it's perhaps best not to jump to conclusions about the size of the areas just yet
-
As one of the no-lifers that completed the campaign yesterday I can tell you now with full confidence that the environment of Destiny will not allow a larger vehicle. Too many close quarters.
-
I don't agree at all but this is a damn fine argument, kudos to you.
I tried to avoid this sounding sarcastic but I'm worried I failed.
funny comment lol
