Never gonna happen. Trolls spouting racist invective directly into some kids living room on a T-rated game isnt their goal.

wait a minute? whats this magical button on those trolls profiles that says "mute player" do? iv never seen this before... whats that you say? it is capable of rendering the troll unheard by my kids racially sensitive ears? who would have thought such power existed at just the touch of a button? moral of the story is, mute the trolls you dont want to listen to.
-
I don't need to mute players, Bungie did it for us! Hahaha! Why don't YOU just send fire team invites if YOU want to chat?
-
because i can only fit 4 people in my fire team... and i want to talk to everyone in any area i happen to g to
-
So you don't believe in the term "The Damage has already been done". It'll take 10 seconds to mute the troll. 10 Seconds of your kids possibly hearing something they shouldn't, and like a juror in a courtroom, even if the judge says to disregard testimony, they'll probably still remember the information. Also, are you really going to drop everything you're doing, including shooting someone in a PvP match, to go into the menu, hope you find the troll and his name, and then select their name to bring up the menu, and THEN mute them? Even if you did it when you get iced, you're wasting time on something that doesn't need to be an issue in the first place. Why don't you teach your kids proper social interaction by making friends in Destiny, based on similar interests and trust/skill, adding them to your fireteam or squad and then wreck face in the Crucible, or even a strike, or the raid?
-
ok so one. its more work to make a party and invite every one in the area to the chat to socialize then it is to mute the odd troll here and there. especially when you would have to repeat the process in every area you enter. and B how is anyone supposed to know who is going to be worth making friends with in destiny without being able to first talk to them? "oh i like the way that guy jumps... he must be really cool i think il add him to my friends." the only way you would know if they have similar interests is if you could talk to them. and III the game is rated teen ya? so the people playing it are expected to be 13 minimum, so anything your kid could hear in ten seconds has already probably left their mouth at some point. i guarantee they have already heard it at school or in other public places.
-
I want the option to opt in a game chat. Why are you even here, on the Internet? It's the same thing.
-
Actually, it's not the same thing. A game is a controlled environment right up until the internet is involved in linking players together. It's the main reason why, before almost every online-capable game, there is a posting talking about online interactions not supporting the ESRB or some junk like that. And the option to have chat is just awkward, especially if you want to be mute except for when you want to be in a fireteam. OH! I just realized another issue: Streaming! Gonna be a pain in the rear to hear someone running across the land, talking to their fans for the sake of entertainment and having global chat on. Even if you muted them, there's so much complication in and around that subject, it's just better to not deal with it at all.
-
True, but if you have no friends to play with then it will be difficult. I met some good friends because of public chat, and I met a fair share of jerks too. But the good friends I found made it worth it.
-
Well, I played the Beta, and am new to PS4 (so little to no friends). All I did was explore and participate in Pub events, and I wound up making a few new friends, and all of that was through shooting, looting, and exploring. Eventually, we used messaging, but this is still a success story of how communication works in the game.
-
And what keeps the same situation from happening when someone invites them or they invite someone to a fireteam? This is aside from the fact that we want to option, which means it could be toggled on or off to prevent the situation entirely. But if a kid is that sensitive or parent wishes to be that protective then they shouldn't be allowed to play online until they are older.
-
And what keeps the same situation from happening when someone invites them or they invite someone to a fireteam?
Then just boot them from the team (instant global mute).... I don't get what you were trying to say there. As for the rest, the person I was replying to has children. If he has his theoretically global chat set to his TV speakers, anything anyone says will be blasted through said speakers. Having options is an individual's preference, true, but if that person wants to hear competent people and instead get trolls, well, that person just taught their kids words they may not want them to hear and repeat just yet. The logic sounds screwed up, but it makes sense.
-
i use very high end gaming headsets. thats not an issue. and anyone with a mic should not have the game chat come threw the tv when its heard threw the speaker in the ear piece of the microphone

Edited by Ninebreaker: 9/2/2014 7:13:50 PM
Then just boot them from the team (instant global mute).... I don't get what you were trying to say there.
Point is, isn't the "damage already done"? Seriously, a global mute option(like what we have now) solves all the problems. I have no idea what you're afraid of. The kids re enabling it? Then don't let them play unsupervised if you're that concerned. There's no reason to take it away from the people that want to use it properly.
-
Edited by Birdman: 9/2/2014 7:47:42 PMNo, usually trolls don't play properly, then suddenly turncoat in a fireteam. In a sense, the global mute is a way to test how far the person will go to have fun. If they just play and help through motions, great! Add em to your fireteam and go on a Strike, because you'll most likely really fly through the mission and get that sweet loot since you both play at similar levels. Until then, you avoid all problems. I don't see the fascination in wanting to talk in a public environment. What are you going to do besides point out targets that may already be obvious, spoil exploration, or talk about non-game related things "out of the blue". Best to just play the game.
-
Edited by Ninebreaker: 9/2/2014 8:12:03 PMThe question isn't why people want it. The real question is why are people against implementing it. If you don't see a use for it, then just leave the option off. You'd never hear a troll. Your exploration would never be spoiled. It doesn't effect you.
-
No, not until I need to undo the option so I can listen to someone because a friend of mine found them, or a clan-mate who happened to be out in the Wild, or a Raid, or a Strike. I'm sorry, but there's too many nuances to even having an option built in, that it's just best to leave it out and keep it to just Fireteams.
-
No, not until I need to undo the option so I can listen to someone because a friend of mine found them
"Nah man I'd rather not enable prox. chat. Invite them to fireteam if you want tho."
or a clan-mate who happened to be out in the Wild
It's not like you hear them. Just point/dance and move on lol.
or a Raid
Communication seems pretty much required for raids. The way they work you wouldn't need proximity chat anyways because you can talk with everyone normally anyways.
, or a Strike.
Why would you need to turn it on for a strike? None of these are problems that justify the omission of an option.. I understand why you don't want to use the feature though and I 10000% support you along those lines. I would probably leave it off most of the time too, but it would be great to use it to find people to raid or run strikes/crucible matches with.
-
I appreciate the support :) ... And I do see where using proxy would work for getting people to run raids/crucible matches with, but it is an isolated purpose. Frankly, there could easily be a spot in the Tower where people could go and wait as a form of "waiting room" (heck, there were couches in the FWC area, and dingy spot in the hangar... most of the Tower was useless in the Beta aside from the NPCs spread out everywhere), and that can be done without words until you're paired up, and even then, you can still chat in the invited group and see if you're compatible with the team so far. It only builds from there.

im not sure how new you are to rpgs... but if you just pick at random without communication people for a raid, you will fail every time. raids are difficult and require many people with many different skills and abilities/tactics. if every one in the fire team usually plays the same way then the raid wont work. people will keep getting in each others way. you have to discuse things like positions (sniper, heavy gunner, support player, lead player, trap setter, healer, who does the most damage per shot, and who does the most damage per second) if you get a bunch of people in the game for example who all do damage per shot but have limited amo, you will get killed on swarms, but if you have allot of people who focus more on dps, then you will run out of amo on heavy creatures with more hp and be killed by boses. if you have to many snipers you will be over run when the creatures get to close, and if you have to many front men you will get picked off by the creature snipers. etc... so just picking at random for raid wont work. and if iscolated purpose is the back bone of your argument, then the only time you would ever not want to hear some one talk is simply because you do not want to hear them talk... look at that? only one purpose for having people muted that can only be accomplished threw having people muted. while having in game chat may occasional expose players to distasteful experience, the positive out weighs the negative. those events you mentioned earlier that you liked so much nd made friends doing for example! how much better would it have been if you could have told the strangers helping you to watch out behind them when on of those invisible stalkers was sneaking up on them? or if you were able to tell a new player where to aim to score a vital hit on the tougher creatures so they dont feel so useful? even outside of events it would be awesome to be able to call out chests you found so everyone could share in the loot, or congratulate a stranger on doing a good job after they helped you defeat a group of tough mobs because they saw you struggling with them? all of these wonderful feelings associated with being part of a community are lost without the option for in game chat.
-
I know the intention is good in calling stuff out in an exploration mission (I agree in Raids and strikes it's necessary, but then you'd be in the fireteam already), but what you don't know is that most people already know the basics (the exception being in low-level areas) and so pointing out things is a major turn off, and occasionally makes people mad depending on the voice. Everything you described could still be done in Fireteam chat, and pointing to show chests does work, it's just that everyone in the zone may not all know about it. And then there are the forums: Here we are arguing over in-game chat, when everything we want to do can be voiced on these forums. We can go to the clan section and say "Looking for clan", we can post in Destiny with a location question (and bump it a few times since some folks love arguing semantics and pointless nonsense on useless topics), etc. etc. And in regard to RPGs and raiding: If you've played Borderlands, you'd know you can still run and wreck through the game with four of the same character. No one HAS to play a certain character to fulfill some role, and I feel Bungie will have done the same in this game. It may be easier if someone were the shield, but considering everyone is just as vulnerable to damage as the other, you hardly have a tank excluding that shield special. I say this game will allow for random people, COMPETENT people, to play with their characters without role restrictions through the end-game raid and have a blast. The community would crumble if folks on here can't participate because they don't want to be the guy who has to wait for a boss's weak point to open before firing his void fusion rifle. That kind of attitude reminds me of Vindictus' Serpent boss (one person was the "runner" where they ran around in a specific location to keep the boss's attack focused on them. Got boring after a while) and being low level in Monster Hunter's Jhen Morhan fight (stuck being on the harpoon and cannon because your weapons would do crap damage otherwise)

Edited by NEWNS: 9/3/2014 7:48:11 PMLOL borderlands didnt have raids.... and yes there is a tank class... its called the Titian, the sniper/trap setting class is the hunter, and the high damage per second class is the warlock... or did you even play the game? you clearly dont know what raids are... and must be some kind of recluse if you are this against speaking with strangers. you are completely disregarding viable options that wont even effect you negatively but would benefit others greatly and that is very ignorant and selfish of you.
-
The concept is still the same, except Borderlands had 4 people max, and Destiny will have a 6-man team. The classes are not really that different, considering all the classes can use the same weapons, which is the primary way of dealing damage in the game, the rest is secondary preferences that still don't directly effect primary weapons (Your sniper theory for hunters is off, considering the Hunter subclass does not receive any boosts to sniping). I do know what Raids are, and I also know this game won't have the same Raid experience you would normally expect in an RPG game (because it's a Shooter first). I'm disregarding unnecessary options, since I can still communicate with people and then initiate chat. You're some kind of sociopath if you want to just talk to strangers instead of playing the game and working together when necessary, considering the max team limit is 3 or 6.
-
ok first of all a sociopath is some one with an antisocial behaviour disability so great that they have no conscience and do what ever they want with out thinking or caring about how it may effect others... hmm.. much like all the people with attitude of "i dont want to talk to people so there shouldn't even be an option" i on the other hand is whats known as a social person, i like meeting new people and building relationships. i am able to understand almost any point of view and it allows me to make friends and compromises easily, i understand and care about people. the exact opposite of a an antisocial/sociopath. in an interview one of the bungle guys said that raids are going to be very difficult missions that wil take upwards of three hours to complete with 6 skilled players. "expect to fail on your first attempt" it will be like nothing seen in borderlands. also if you had not yet noticed in the beta, there was a slot for a second subclass, so you can not say with any certainty that there will be no snipping boosts for the hunter, i made the assumption that in most past rpgs the hunter classes excelled in ranged weaponry. and that may very well be the case here. the fact that the max team size is usually 3 people is exactly why there needs to be some sort of prox or game chat. it is marketed as a social shooter and being able to talk to 3 out of 12 people is not social. you are obviously uneducated, uninformed, and unwilling to listen. so unless your next comment is more intelligent then the past few this is where our conversation ends.
-
I'm sorry, but the end result is that everything you're saying is easily answered by just joining a group or taking the first social step and sending a request to the stranger you just helped out in a pub event and want to play with them. It is their choice whether to play with you or not, and subsequently their choice to continue further communication beyond shooting baddies and pointing. The true fact of the matter is: this whole argument was pointless, considering the game is gold now, so if it's in, it's in. And if it is not, it's not.
