I played Dust for a few months last year. I really liked it, but the fact that the gear is so sparse, the fact that you have to buy it all with in game and real life money (for the really good stuff) AND the fact that you have to replenish the stock of all of said gear kinda' killed it for me. I was big into MAG when it was the game to play on the PS3. Played it religiously in fact (SVER won the Shadow War, BTW. FOR THE BROTHERHOOD!!!), and in many ways Dust was just like MAG in terms of map size, combat and emphasis on vehicles. It's just that micro-transaction/micro-management aspect of Dust that made me take a step back from it.

  • Dude... Mag was the shit... Leadership and strategy in that game was beautiful. Started off on Valor worked my way over to SVER

  • Started with SVER in the clan Cold Blooded Killers [CBK], which ended up being one of the more well known, but not elite SVER clans as a founding member. Stuck with them for 2 tours, then went Veteran (To those who don't know, going Veteran or "vetting" was MAG's equivalent to Prestige mode in CoD) over to Raven. Worst decision of my MAG career as Raven for all their fancy looking gear had shitty players, no communication and no direction. I'd play matches without saying a word because either no one had mics, or they all were Euros and didn't speak English. And no, for those who'll try to turn that into me taking a shot at European gamers, Raven was the European based PMC of MAG..and as such, a bulk of the European player base chose to be in Raven. I stayed with Raven for only 1 tour before I went Veteran back over to SVER, joining Pink Fluffy Bunny before going home to CBK, where I stayed until I stopped playing a couple months after they integrated all of the servers...which was the death knell for MAG. Dust has a LOT similar with MAG. Almost all aspects. Customization of skills, weapons skill trees, physical skill trees, all kinds of stuff. You can truly customize your soldier to fit your play style. If you play a run & gun style, you can focus on speed and stamina. (I remember a couple of times in Dust seeing guys who could run faster then the vehicles. They couldn't sustain heavy fire, and could only carry light weapons, but being that friggin' fast makes up for it.) If you're a long range marksman, you beef up your weapon accuracy, stability, and ADS skills. If you're a shock & awe guy, health, explosive & weapon resistance and heavy weapons are what you work on. There's literally NO ASPECT of your soldier you can't tweak. Even down to how well you handle vehicles, how fast you heal team mates and how easily you hack objectives. I 100% recommend Dust for any PS3 user who wants to play a game different from the other FPS games out their. If you want something a little deeper. But as I said, be mindful of the micro-management and micro-transactions needed to really be competitive. No, it's not pay to win, as there's no special weapons you buy that are inherently stronger then the stuff you get from simply playing. But booster packs for XP and in game money separate the casuals from the elites.
