Newsweek released a special Destiny Collector's Edition with a built in 60 page strategy guide from the POV of the various creators of Destiny in Bungie. You get to see the layout of 15 different creator's guardians and why they liked various load-outs on armors, and such. The whole magazine was awesome, and definitely worth picking up. But the most interesting section was where David 'Deej' Dague said, and I quote:
"We'll have the most hard-core members of our community racing each other to complete this thing first. We will be watching and keeping score. And we'll erect monuments to the people who are able to complete this thing first. We will observe them, and we will make sure they inherit the legend that they so richly deserve." --excerpt from the bottom of page 115 of the Newsweek special.
Edit: A few showed interest in getting the magazine and was wondering where you could get it. It should be at any major book store outlet, and can be purchased online from Amazon as well. Here is a link to it for anyone interested:

Just popping in with a necro bump... HAS ANYONE FOUND THIS MONUMENT? I haven't...
-
We better be able to draw mustaches on the statue.
-
That would be cool to see monumenrs go up in game for that complete it first. Or something like a commemorative plaque that you can interact with.
-
Quoted from Gravemind in Halo 3 - " ... I am a monument to all your sins." Bungie does so love their metaphors.
-
Sucks for the people that have school like me
-
I bet they will get.........RECON ARMOR!!!

I love how a lot of people are acting like raids is going to be the first thing they do when they get the game. First you have to play through the story until you even unlock Venus. Secondly, you need to be level 20+ with 5 others who are 20+ to even attempt to do even the first area of the raid. I've herd so many people saying they will be posting on 9/9 on YouTube about raids and gameplay of them doing raids. Seriously, no you're not, shut up about it.
-
Trust me, when I beat the vault of glass monuments won't be the only thing erecting.
-
this is tempting as hell....maan
-
What really sucks is that they don't sell it here in Norway, nor can I order it since they don't ship it up here :-S
-
I need 1 Titan, 2 Warlocks, and 2 Hunters!
-
This is actually pretty awesome news. I think a lot of people will be bummed out though when someone claims the throne for that raid. Though it's deffinitely cool and gives the over achiever players something to strive for. It's probably safe to assume there's going to be some type of throne award for the competitive players in MP as well.

this game needs to hurry up and launch. the more time they have to talk about it, the dumber it gets. please, just get out of my way with all this me-generation nonsense. i simply want to dissipate my time and money with a dumb video game, not be "immortalized" by it.

While this is a fun idea, I think it would make a bit more sense to have a monument to the first team from each timezone to complete it. If, as posts further down say, the Australians are the first to get their hands on it, odds get better in favor of an Australian team being the first to complete it. If it's timezone based, seems like the playing field would be evened out. It seems very unfair to whoever is in the last time zone to be getting it when they do, seeing as they wont be able to compete with the leveling of those in the first timezone. Just a thought.

I don't care unless there is an Achievement. A monument doesn't do jack shit for me once I leave to go play better games.
-
I'm curious to see if these 'monuments' are in-game or if I'll get to see a statue of my actual self eating Doritos on Bungie's front lawn.
-
I thhink the best thing about this is, if you don't get it, it's no big deal, but if you do happen to get it, you will probably throw up in happiness.
-
I hope there'll be an emblem or something. That'd be nice. I will never be one of the first who completes a raid. I'll find myself wandering arround, exploring and shooting stuff while other are rushing to first-raid. Luckily everybody can play the way they want to :)

I think it will be great to see those who beat it given their props in such a way. It definitely won't be me. I'm a very proud casual gamer. Even in EQ when I was with higher end guilds I was only allowed membership because I made funny jokes, never lost my temper, and gave zero f***s about loot. I just enjoyed the social aspect of the game and the roleplaying/storylines. I never was online enough to be a higher end player.
-
Pretty badass but if they are gonna do that they might need to change em from time to time just to be fair to all the gamers cause there will be some that dont get the game right when it comes out
-
Do you have a link?
-
Maybe a holographic hall like Dark Souls had. When you beat someone scores/times you replace thier graphic.
-
Id love to see a statue of a Guardian with a ridiculous username xD

No matter what happens, I would never stand any chance in a competition like that. Even if I was able to conquer the Vault of Glass in less than an hour, and even if I had friend with which I could complete that challenge with, time zones mean that I won't be able to get my copy of Destiny until only the last few hours of the day being September 9, anywhere on Earth. So for someone else, thousand of miles away from me and who lived in the first time zone the game was released in, the odds of them completing it first get closer and closer to 100%. So congratulations to them already.

Good luck to those that achieve that. I'll be enjoying my sanity for a little while longer. Something like that would have appealed to me 6-8 years ago, but not now. I can barely sit in front of my tv for more than 2 hours at a time. And that's pushing it.
