Here is a theory for you... What if the Traveller is nothing more than an AI in a terraforming ship, sent ahead of a colony ship. But somewhere along the way the colony ship doesn't arrive. Terraforming ship decides to find someone else to help colonise worlds... Traveller finds us... but what if ANOTHER Traveller was out there... a Black Traveller who terraforms the planets the Fallen originally were on... before they became the fallen. The terraforming engine infects the Pre-Fallen and create the Hive... which is why the Hive and the Fallen are fighting... The Hive drove the Fallen from their home planet and then follows them. The Fallen will then hate the Terraforming ships... including our Traveller. The Hive just plain hate everything, being space Zombies after all.

 • Maybe the traveller was created by the darkness to destroy worlds but went rogue and helped stuff so the darkness created the moon "bigger bad traveler" in hopes of catching it one day as a trap and it kind of worked

 • I remember reading a book where the moon was actually a huge battleship. It's called Mutineer's Moon by David Weber (before he went all hyper political and data dumpish). It's a really good book and has sequels. The full 3 book series can be found here -> http://www.baenebooks.com/p-127-empire-from-the-ashes.aspx
Just a routine day in lunar orbit. That's all Lieutenant Commander Colin Maclntyre, USN, expected. Only a simple training mission to test a new survey instrument intended for the first manned American-Russian interstellar flight. What he got was just a bit different. First, there was the fact that Earth didn't actually have a Moon. Then there was the three thousand-kilometer diameter alien starship pretending it was the Moon. And the millennia-old cybernetic intelligence that shanghaied him to serve as its crew.
Sound familiar heh?

 • If the Fallen home planet is far enough away then they could have taken evasive courses on the way here while the Hive could have flown straight meaning the Hive arrive first.

 • Are you sure the Hive aren't just being pushed AHEAD of the Darkness?

 • Yes I'm sure. The hive are an ancient race that have kept themselves alive thanks to the darkness. The hive want to destroy the light. The hive followed the darkness to earth and fought humanity. There were no fallen, cabal or vexs. The hive are not the flood 2.0.

 • These are just theories at present. There are no right or wrong ones at the moment... just theories. I still think the OP is on to something though... The fact that the Fallen cut off their lower arms in a ritual until they are fit to regrow them does make me look at the Thralls differently. But in another couple of weeks we will be learning more for sure... not all of course (knowing Bungie) but we will get a better idea of what is happening.
