I think they need to get away from the "romance" of treating the Hand Cannon like its a revolver. IF---and I say IF---they want to see the HC widely used, they need to double its magazine size, and dramatically speed up its reload time. There is a reason why no army sends its soldiers into battle with handguns as primary weapons....and why no major police forces still use revolvers as their handgun of choice for their officers.

 • good thing this isn´t the army nor a police force, but a video game, where weapon usage can be more about fun and coolness factor and not purely about practicality. As a fan of revolvers I cherish all the love they can get, especially in this day and age of military shooters. As for how to fix the hand cannon, judging from what changes I seen to the one my hunter used before the beta, there answer from Bungie is to basicly ramp up the impact and make them short range sniper rifles. I would hazard to guess in PvP they will be viable by offering quality over quantity, stopping a AR user dead in there tracks with one maybe two shots within there effective range.

 • True. ...and the HC's shortcomings as a weapon are more manageable in the confines of the Crucible. Where they are a MAJOR problem, though, is in PvE play. As the YouTube guy, "DattoDoesDestiny" put it when discussing the Hunter's Ghost Gun (and ultimately the weaknesses of the Hand Cannon), "In PvP play, three shots can represent a significant-portion-to-all of the opposing side. In PvE PLAY, three shots and three kills is next to nothing." He takes the position that the gun is "fun" to use...but that there is no RATIONAL reason to choose it over other weapons.....and I'm inclined to agree with him. Given my experience using it. It's sexy...but I'd never play with one in PvE play. Except as a Hunter, who was part of a fireteam." Running with one as a solo Warlock is tantamount to suicide in PvE.

 • I completed all the story mission on hard, solo, as a warlock, with a handcannon....

 • Show me the video. I don't buy it. Especially the 5th mission when you're battling to defend the Array.

 • Why would I have a video of me playing solo... The last mission wasn't easy but most of the enemies were weak and died from a single headshot. I can't prove it since I guess you can't look at my recent games, but I did. Not trying to troll or come off as a douche.

 • ...and I'm saying that I don't buy it. Even if you were a 100% accurate, and getting 100% head shots I don't believe that you can put enough lead in the air to keep from getting over-run and killed in that mission without having to put away that HC and resort to heavier weapons.

 • Well I never said I didn't use heavy weapons. I had the HC equipped the entire time and really only needed heavy weapons for the 2 wizards. Other than that it was handcannon only. I can't post the picture of the stats from my recent games since it's from my photos on my phone, but it was on July 27, last day of the beta, and I had 135 kills, 8 assists (even though I was the only one in the game so idk how that's possible...) and no deaths. Believe me or not I'm just saying it's not impossible.

 • How did you wind up with 8 assists if you were playing solo?

 • Like I said I have no clue. Unless the enemies somehow blew eachother up? I'm the only one listed in the scoreboard, so I know I was alone.

 • Oh you mean the beta. I thought you were joking, saying you beat all of destiny story. My mistake.

 • Oh yeah. My bad I should have specified. I just mean the 5 story missions in the beta.

 • I ran exclusively PvE with my hunter using a hand cannon and had no problem using it to survive a fight, even ran the strike multiple times with little to no fuzz, I would imagen it will be even more manageable with the buff.

 • It's manageable as a hunter because many of his focuses support and supplement precise fire with a single shot weapon, and in melee range the Hunter is almost a effective as a Titan. So the Hunter can compensate for many of the HC's shortcomings as a weapon. But a Hunter can punch and knife his way out of jams that a Warlock can't. As a Warlock, if you get over run by more than one or two enemies....you're simply dead unless you have room enough to escape vertically and jump to safety. Which is why trying to play one and use a HC is practically suicidal. Since the weapon choice just amplifies the Warlock's biggest weakness.

 •
you're simply dead unless you have room enough to escape vertically and jump to safety.
then you should had learned to run more horizontally, that´s what I did, I survey a combat situation, staked out good cover spots and learned to dance in and out of cover in between reloads. I rarely went down to flashing red health as a hunter, can´t imagen it be more hard as a warlock.

 • If they make those changes, there will be no difference between hand cannons and scout rifles, except that the latter has better range. Hand cannons, to me, feel like mid-range shotguns, but right now they are limited by their damage potential. If they hit harder than scout rifles and had better hipfire, I think they would feel right and excel in some situations over other weapon classes.

 • They feel like mid-rante shotguns....because they basically are. The HC was originally designed to be part of the Special Weapons group. All of which were slow fire-rate, high-damage, short-to-mid-range weapons....until the Sniper Rifle was moved in from its orginal spot in the Heavy Weapons group. But the HC got promoted to a primary weapon, because a number of people fell in love with the feeling of being an Old West outlaw ("bad@ss") when running with it as a primary. So now you have all these problems with it that Bungie is trying to fix, because its being asked to fill a role it wasn't designed to. The problem with the HC as a primary isn't a lack of damage. It hits harder than any other primary weapon. One head shot or two body shots will put down most PvE enemies. If you increase the damage any farther...you just turn it into a faster firing version of the fusion rifle. IMO, what it needs (to function as an effective primary) is a larger magazine and a faster reload. So that anyone who is carrying it as a primary is not so vulnerable to being simply over run. It won't be a carbon copy of the SR, because it will hit harder (the SR needs two head shots and four body shots) but have shorter range and more recoil. The SR will not hit as hard, but will allow more accurate ranged fire. That way, the HC gets to keep its distinct personality as a handgun----by treating it as a semi-automatic rather than a revolver---yet turning it into an reasonable weapon for PvE play.
