I am so confused about this and need help understanding?
When it is September 9th somewhere in the world, and you have access to your very own version of Destiny, it will be time for you to create a character that will keep you company for a good, long time. Retailers will stick to time-zones. Our servers won’t know the difference. Retailers will break street date. Our servers won’t.
Could Deej have made that anymore confusing sounding? At first he makes it sound like you can play when it hits midnight at your time zone, But then he words it like you will be able to get the game but not play it until 12am pst? Deej makes my head hurt with how he answers any question he is asked (-(-(-_(-_-)_-)-)

  • It sounds to me like creating a character and logging them in are 2 separate actions, where one will be available to you at your local time and the actual logging in of your created character (to go to orbit and visit the tower/earth/etc.) will have to wait until they flip the switch to allow the servers to be accessed by the public, which won't be until midnight Pacific Time at Bungie HQ.

    • I live in Florida so up til this update I assumed (still do actually) that I won't be playing until 3 am. This update says (to me) that as soon as midnight strikes, I can play my Digital Guardian Edition. But I dunno. So until it's plainly stated, I'm taking a nap til 2:30 am before greatness, lol.

    • This is what deej wrote in the forums. We don't manage the PS Store. You should ask them. Whenever you gain access to Destiny on 9/9, you can play. Can't make it clearer than that

        • 12am whatever time zone your in, you can play the game simple as that. How would you create a character if the servers are not up yet??

          • The way he worded it makes me think that the instant it becomes September 9th at the International Date Line the servers will go live and you'll be able to play the game. However, when midnight hits at the international date line, it will only be 7pm central time in the US. This means that you won't have the game yet since retailers can't give it out until 12am. The bit about breaking street date sounds like even if you get the game two days in advance you won't be able to play until it is September 9th somewhere in the world. So this makes me think that if you live in the central time zone and you can manage to get the game early, the earliest you can start playing would be 7pm on September 8th. I could be totally wrong about all of this though.

          • Also he said the servers would be going up to let Reviewers get in before release date. So what that means (IMO) is that the servers are going up. And that the only thing holding you back at this point is getting your copy of it. Whether it's brick and mortar or digital, whatever retailer has your copy, its on when you get it home and in your console of choice. That's what I think it means anyways.

              • What it essentially means that in some areas of the world (for example, here in New York City) you have retailers...mostly non-chain retailers who will likely sell copies of the game before the "street date" of September 9th. Most all retailers will get their stock of the game on the 5th, that being the 1st Friday of the month. Some will put it in stock and sell them on the 5th. The national chains like Gamestop, Best Buy and so on won't...but the local game retailers likely will...because they'll have a substantially smaller stock then the large chains. Whereas Gamestop will have a couple hundred copies, the local chains will have 60...at best. So they're going to try and make an immediate profit before the big chains suck all of the sales of the game for themselves on the 9th. Where that correlates to what Deej said is that even if those retailers who sell the game before the official release date, the servers will not be live until the official release of the game, 12:00am September 9th, 2014. As far as timezones, 12am over in Seattle is 3 hours behind 12am in NYC. As such, even though in New York the official release is 3 hours ahead of the release in Seattle, the servers will still go online at 12am September 9th, regardless of timezone. We here on the East coast will have a 3 hour headstart, but regardless...the server are live at midnight September 9th...no matter what timezone you're in.
