A couple of things to consider and remember: 1. Each level after 20 will grant you one Mote Of Light. 2. There's no telling how many MOLs you will need to purchase just a helmet. Lets say a helmet that has the light stat cost 2 MOLs, chest at another 3 or 4 MOLs, gauntlet at another 3 MOLs, etc. This alone could push the level cap past 30 when you think about it.
-
I also took from that that levelling may be slightly slower, or at least harder - which I think I'm pleased about, on my 2nd character I managed to get to level 8 in a little under 2 hours. Kinda worried me about how easy 20 would be to achieve!
-
I actually want the cap to be low so it leaves a lot of room for expansions.
-
It doesn't matter where the cap is, it matters how fun the game is.
-
The cap is 30 with equipment. Still sounds like 20 is soft cap and 30 is with equipment. Then maybe each expansion can add that by 10 :D
-
30? That just doesn't seem very big...
-
I'm sure they'll raise the cap at some point. I wonder if you stop earning motes of light after you hit the cap though.
-
Not cool
-
I'm guessing every expansion will come with a level cap increase, else it wouldn't make sense to release em when everyone is already maxed out

Edited by Tnilc: 8/22/2014 10:12:19 PMNot really that bothered about the level cap. As long as each DLC adds variety whether it be through loot, or missions/tasks etc I'll be happy.

Didn't the original Guild Wars have a level 20 cap? That was a pretty popular game and had a pretty substantial following through its life cycle. I understand that people are upset about the level 20 (soft cap)- 30 cap, but the game needs to be judged by content and not by some number that's really only good for showing how long you played. most of the games with a level 80+ cap I've played I lose interest in at level 50. And by that time progression is so excruciatingly slow to reach your next mediocre power that it feels like a chore and not a natural progression. I personally like the lower cap, but I know I'm in the minority on this thread.
-
the level cap should be more, I mean it depends of how fast the leveling system is but we might get to that level in less than a month, its like leveling up each day and no counting the first day some people might get to lv10 or more

Edited by Kilo: 8/21/2014 9:08:08 PM
Jesse van Dijk: One of the pleasant surprises was the distribution between the player classes was really even. I was under the impression Warlock was the most popular. Jesse van Dijk: We get that a lot from people, like, clearly this is the superior class. Jonty Barnes: I can tell you there’s less than two per cent between the lowest and the highest.
Edited by TheMighty3X: 8/22/2014 12:18:26 PMI don't see what's the need for insanely and unnecessarily high levels in a game. What purpose do they serve when you've achieved the maximum amount of "power" you can obtain in the game aside from just a badge of honor or yet another way for testosterone infused neckbeards to beat their chest about how awesome they are. I mean, I've seen level 1000s on GTA Online...the last content you get in the game unlocks at level 120, so what the -blam!-? I'm gonna use DC Universe Online here as an example. Like Destiny, the maximum level you could reach by endgame was 30, but then the game opens up from there with the expansive types of armor and weapons you could earn and obtain, plus the innate abilities you build up that extended you powers beyond what your level allows. (sound familiar?) Over the course of the game's existence, new "tiers" of armor and weapons have been added in expansions and DLC, if I'm not mistaken their up to Tier 6 now, each tier from previous expansion increasing your powers higher and higher. You would need Tier 1 gear to get Tier 2 (as in to beat the content necessary to earn it) and so on. This is the same type of system that Destiny is implementing, just without the Tier categorization, even though I have a feeling that the gear you earn from The Dark Below is probably going to be stronger than what we will have unlocked in the retail release. Horizontal leveling isn't that complicated people, some of you need to calm down. All your base level serves as is a nice shiny number to show "hey, I've played Destiny for a while". What you arm and armor yourself with is the mark of your greatness, not what number sits next to your username.

Edited by Tom T: 8/22/2014 5:36:31 PMIt wouldn't surprise me if the level cap got raised via DLC. Hypothetical example: Launch -> level 30 cap with soft level cap of 20 (10 levels of Light) Expansion Pack 1 -> level 40 cap with soft level cap increased from 20 to 25 (15 levels of Light) Expansion Pack 2 -> level 50 cap (with soft level cap increased from 25 to 30 (20 levels of Light) this way, players will never be a high enough level to tackle all the expansion pass content upon purchase, and will instead have to further upgrade their character to meet the new challenges, as they did when progressing through the initial storyline.
-
I don't think the level cap is what really matters. I think that bungie wanted to eliminate a lot of "the grind" so that guardians can focus on their individual damage type builds and such.
-
I still think it's whack
-
Lvl 20 cap, you can reach 30 with the right gear. But its still 20
-
Good read. Thank for the post
-
Do you think the level cap will increase with DLC, like The Borderlands games do?
-
Fair enough.
-
30 seems pretty reasonable to me.
-
Really? 30 is acceptable for people?
-
Good I hate grinding endlessly to reach an end level with developers putting on level caps early on to halt progress because they created a shallow experience. I'd rather reach the end level early on so I can concentrate on really helping other players rather than worrying about farming for one more kill to get closer to the end result.
-
they did the same thing with REACH.
-
Well it's not surprising that 30 is the cap because the Vault of Glass has difficulties for levels 27-31. So yeah, it's gon' be a pain.
