Seriously, Split Screen

I know there are a bunch of topics out there already, but I decided to add my voice to the throng. Guys, do you have any idea how disappointing it was for my wife and I to play the beta, both love the heck out of it, and realize we would never actually be able to play the game together? We can't afford to buy another current-gen console just to play one game together, but we both loved the beta and would really like to play the game together. That's a huge experience you're depriving us of. And when Destiny, a game with a huge focus on social interaction, doesn't allow us to have that interaction with the closest people in our lives, something is very, very wrong. Just add two-player split screen to the game. It will only help your goals here, and it will help my wife and I (among a multitude of other people with the same complaint) enjoy the game so, so much more.

  • The day the gaming industry took away split screen is the day true socialization in gaming died! I have been wanting split screen on so many games for years!!!

  • My wife is new to gaming. She got into it with Diablo III and loved playing. When Destiny came out, and she couldn't play, she got a little depressed. It would actually be pretty awesome if they added split screen.

  • As much as I miss the days of split screen co-op FPS, splitscreen is never gonna happen. Split screen just means the potential of one less sold console and one less sold disc. And that means less profit.

  • Split screen should have been part of the game. Hopefully they will add it, but it will most likely be in dlc. I just hope they evolve Destiny into the game it should be. All hope isn't lost, give positive feedback and hope Bungie hears us. Everything is there for an epic game, just needs some improvements.

NOT ONLY did I work my azz off to acquire my 4 consoles and rig, I worked OT and bought my girl a copy, a copy for my 360, and my X1 to play with her, my 360 friends, and my X1 friends. SMH It is NOT Bungies responsibility to implement split screen for people who cry poor, and literally BLAME the developers integrity on social development of the product. Jeezus. I'd ask how old you are but if you're an adult the older you are the worse you look. The audacity of some people. Christ. Something IS "very wrong". Get a job.

    • I am with you; my excitement was shot and I was on my way to pre-order Destiny when my best friend and split-screen gaming buddy told me it wouldn't have split-screen. I did not buy the game because of it. I was very much looking forward to playing it with my little brother. I too very much enjoyed the Beta. I think that taking away one of the most basic, and the greatest, option in video games from the community that made them great through Halo, Bungie made a huge mistake. Yet what bothers me even more, is that our society has become so incredibly anti-social and owned by the technology itself that very few of us seem to care about this and want to use videogames as a means of strengthening real-life relationships. Gaming is becoming anti-social which defeats the point of games. :(

Split screen is dying out! I was the same as you, my wife playes all the games such as halo (split screen) gears of war (split screen ) etc then comes along battlefield, gta v and now destiny. We had to make the hard decision to buy another x1! But it's the best money we've ever spent as that is our hobby and that's what we do together (among other things of course :) lol ) anyway I suggest you save your money to buy one as you won't regret it, and sadly all games are going this way like division etc so you really will miss out!

        • The below is from one of my posts advocating against split screen.
Ok, for all of you who want split screen in this game, I'm going to reason to you that it should not be in this game. First of all, it's an RPG as well as an fps. Very few RPG's so have split screen, and if they do it is usually in campaign offline. There is a reason for this. If a guest were to just jump on a friends console, how would the game decide what level and gear they will get to play with? The game cannot just spawn them in the world with any gear because they didn't earned it. Same goes for levels. I cannot think of an mmo/online RPG that allows guests to play (if you know one that allows online guests Please let me know) .Also, if you by chance are playing split screen with someone who has an online account, what happens if you two aren't the same level? With split screen, you would have to both be on the same planet at once fighting the same level range of enemies. If one person is under-leveled/geared, they won't have the best play experience. The main problem is the gear/leveling system that wouldn't work with splitscreening guests. Also the console will be overworked having two players instead of one. Also, not all shooters have split screen (bf4)
• Adding split screen would definitely make this game more enjoyable and surely it can't be that hard to implement please listen to the community and add split screen into the game

          • Sorry, but you are almost certainly in the minority here. Split screen is just not a priority for the majority of Destiny players or Bungie. So they're not going to do it no matter how much people complain. They simply do not have the computing resources available to them to make it happen in a worthwhile way (resolution/frame rate etc).

            • I'd love split screen, but I'm not sure destiny is capable of supporting it. Playing halo with a house wired up to support 4 xboxes so 16 of us could play was a huge thing. It made gaming great. That said, split screen on destiny would come down to the capability of a system to support 2 separate games running simultaneously. I know the last gen consoles can't handle it. PS3 has too many problems running a single game with too much memory. Destiny works extremely well on it, but Fallout New Vegas couldn't run at all late game. And the skyrim problems. Destiny would work great if you were running split screen in a limited level system like Halo. The problem is that it's far too easy to wander off from your fireteam in destiny. If I go left and the person I'm playing with goes right, and we end up in 2 separate loading zones it means that the game has to load and run both zones simultaneously, effectively doubling the game's pull on the processor. PS3 would simply freeze. PS4/xbox1 might be able to run it, with diminished capability/frame rate, then again they simply might not be able to do it at all. If the game was limited to strikes/crucible matches it would probably be fine, aside from log in limitations which may be inherent to the system architecture. Explore mode would either be unplayable or crash. Much of the story mode crosses through the explore mode terrain, making it essentially explore mode. Split screen is great, I'd love to see it, but I'm not sure that this is even possible given the game they made.

              • It's so weird that people would have a strong opinion against split-screen as if they are going to be forced to play that way. It's not going to happen, sorry, but all the opposition from the community is really perplexing. If you don't have someone that you want to share a screen with then this has nothing to do with you.

                • To the person who said female gamers are rare, they actually aren't. My wife is an avid gamer as well as are my sisters and quite a few other women I know. The stigma that women don't game is gone. Women represent 45% of the general populace of gamers and that number actually beats out the number of males 17 and younger who game (19%). These numbers were drawn from a survey conducted by the Entertainment Software Association last year. As for the original topic, I would love to be able to enjoy the game with my wife. I would love for there to be split-screen capabilities. However, Destiny is not the game to support it. As has been said, the strain it would put on consoles would be too grand for it to be a feasible idea. We no longer have a second console either and certainly can't afford a second game. I really must disagree with those who say it should be easy to save up for a console as well. I have my wife and our son. $50/check over the course of a few months (as was stated in a previous comment) is an additional week's worth of meals for us (if we portion correctly) and the $150-$500 for either a last-gen or current-gen system (even saved up over the course of a few months) is still not feasible. It may be easy for some, but plenty of us gamers with families simply can't spare the extra bit these days. My two cents.

                • I feel your pain my man, but it won't happen unfortunately. You and your wife seem like the perfect couple. Do you know how hard it is to find a woman who likes to play videogames? It's like finding a conscience in the middle of wallstreet. It's like finding virgin in the club. It's like finding an honest man at the car dealership. They're scarce as all hell.

                • Not that you don't have my sympathies, but I never understood the love for split screen. I disliked it, even on N64. I'd rather save up for another console for the wifey. That's just me though.
