While I do agree that we wont be disappointed with the map size in the full game, there are some things we should clear up. From the way you talk in this post, its obvious you haven't done much research regarding the mentioned elements of the game. Speculation helps no one, facts do. You might be a bit sad when the expansions come out, bungie has said we wont be getting any new areas like old Chicago for a long time, so i dont think a new planet should even be hoped for. I am linking you to a eurogamer article that talks about destiny's map size: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-07-28-bungie-reassures-fans-disappointed-that-destiny-only-has-one-playable-area-per-planet Specifically this quote:
"Yeah, we're calling them destinations," community manager David "DeeJ" Dague explained. "You go to Mars, you go to the Moon, you've got Venus, and you've got Earth." We've seen concept art for those locations before - but what about outside the solar system? "Not so far," he said. "We've revealed everything that you'll explore in the first version of the game."
Yes, first version means initial release, but I don't think the expansions will be treated as a "second version" new areas unlocked, yes. But they will most likely just add on to Old Russia, or one of the other planets. Doing research is important when making posts like this, just some advice.

  • Thank you for the link, but I don't see how this denies any concept of more locations to be revealed upon expansions, all "facts" were about what has been revealed so far, and yes we know about old Russia and mars, and etc. This is vanilla, what of the expansions, they even say that expanding the reach beyond our solar system is "not so far" as in we haven't planned an expansion for that yet, but that's cool though that they may plan too, but it in no way denies that they wont make additional locations with expansions on the current planets. So i don't know, show me something else?

  • I highly doubt that for $15 we will get a whole new zone. Remember, they have been developing Destiny for five years, and even though Old Russia isnt all that big, it took a long time to make. I'm just saying to think realistically, getting your hopes up is just a bad idea.

  • I think Bungie has not told us everything (location wise). There are two places cards (Jupiter and Saturn) in my companion Grimoire. Pure speculation, but I think we might be travelling there in the expansions. I would lean more to Jupiter and Saturn being released, as part of the first two expansions, as opposed to them just adding additional content to existing planets from the initial release.

  • I agree, I was just hoping that maybe as a story arc they would have you start in old Chicago or something then travel to a new local on mars, then Jupiter! as a new released local. But that's high hopes, its more likely what your saying, but dangit isn't that enough!

If they do intend to add different locations (city, country or continent) to each planet. I am curious how they intend to handle the navigation portion. Right now....you travel to earth...old Russia map comes up...no apparent method to scroll elsewhere. Unless that was just beta with a navigate function to be added later...in the interests of hiding further initial release game content...then old Russia is it. Of note...when it comes to Destiny...more is never enough. :)

  • I figured it would be something like when your in orbit with your ship, just like when you decided to go to the moon, except a little box would show up next to the world allowing you to hover over the earth with say old Chicago as the location, like they do with the tower notifications...(i.e. when you hover over the notifications and select it as a destination it takes you to the tower instead of old Russia, which both reside on earth.)

That would be one way to do it. Since we are on the topic of lo-cals...do you know anything about the "Reef"...I assume that is where they intend to incorporate the Raids/Nightfall missions.

  • All I know is that it's the space debris left around from the golden age kinda like the stuff from an arc fall on the show defiance. I was kinda hoping it would incorporate dogfight with our ships, but really I have no clue

  • IC... That is a bit of a stretch... If they were to do space combat like Star Wars Battlefront II...that would pretty sweet. I am always up for space dogfights.
