When you say Earth's moon in your location declaration at start, you may be interested to know that the moon's specific name is "Luna." If your fiction takes Titan Gallow across the solar system, you may want a standardized format for these declarations. Earth only has one moon, so you're totally cool here, but orbiting Uranus you would have 27 unique moons to contend with, so the individual name would be extremely important to tell the audience where in the name of the Traveler the story is taking place. For that reason, you may find that calling celestial bodies by their name (and reference planet) will keep everything clear and universal. As an automated sort of fade-in (much like the" Captain's Log, Star date" of Star Trek), a static and clear format will make your work more persistent & believable in the long run.

 • Thanks for the input, man. I was planning on being more specific with the other planets and moons out there for sure. Its just that so far in the presented material, everyone has called Earths Moon- The Moon. I was actually going to use Luna, but it didn't seem to fit with the established jargon, ya know?

 • This seems pretty dead now, BUT I feel the need to point out that Luna is Spanish for moon. You know, not for THE moon, but for moon. The celestial body. So calling The Moon "Luna" doesn't really change anything other than using a Spanish word.

 • Haha, I can see your reasoning, but for whatever my opinion is worth; just because everyone else is doing something wrong doesn't mean you have to :) (The idea that they are doing it wrong isn't my opinion in this case though. They are wrong definitively because "moon" is the classification/type of celestial body rather than the particular body of said type to which you are referring. I think that officially Destiny references Earth's moon as "The Moon" simply to dumb things down for their incredibly broad and thus potentially stupid [by law of lowest common denominator] audience.)
On the other hand, I am being a bit of a grammar -godwinslaw!- on this point, either way is a very minor detail. All the same, why pass up an improvement when offered? Even the tiniest ones are still improvements nonetheless, and as a writer you should know that every single word contributes to the overall feeling you pass on to your audience, and the quality of your work as a whole.
• I appreciate it, but I honestly disagree. Most of Earth has called the Moon- The Moon- for centuries. While it makes sense that our celestial little sister has a name, nobody ever says- "Hey, Luna is really bright tonight." Most people would just call it The Moon. When you tell someone to go into your house, you just say "Hey- Get in the house" Not "Hey-Get in the Smith family house" It's just how we use language. Since The Moon is OUR Moon, we have have a feeling ownership to it I suppose. I really do appreciate the suggestion though. Remember "That, Wizard came from The Moon!" Not Luna. lol ;)
