Why Old Russia?

Why is Old Russia the only explorable location on Earth? The place is a mundane, rusty wasteland with hardly any striking landforms and/or buildings worth visiting. Not to mention repetitive side missions that get old fast. Skywatch? Only has one story within the building, why can't it be multi level and full of activities? I just don't understand why Old Russia was chosen and why it's the ONLY area on the entire freaking planet. You all know Deej was lying when he said "I still get lost in Old Russia." After 30 minutes of exploring I had the place memorized inside and out. This so called "open world" is really not delivering on its promises.

  • Seriously? asking? Reason for Old Russia was that it was the Launching point from earth to the rest of the solar system for colonization of the other planets. Bungie wanted to make that significance about the story. That's why there are 5 launch towers strung along Old Russia. Other than that, I don't know.. Bungie has also 'nodded' to several of the Russian Cosmonauts from the 1960s usually through the names of weapons and Gear.
