Destiny's story criticism

While I don't agree with the whole article, it raises good points. I know I only got to play the beta, and so some cutscenes may have been omitted, but the pacing of the story so far isn't great. I've been dead for god knows how long, and just escaped a bunch of angry alien pirates, and all that's really explained afterwards is that this tower is a base and that I need to go out again and get a warp drive. The fallen's motivations, humanities history, the guardians and the city are all explained in grimoire or background dialogue, and it all seems rushed and awkward. Another cutscene or so to explain the history of what happened, to actually show some of the citizens of the city, to be introduced by the Vanguard Mentors and told by duty now would help build up atmosphere and the story. Also some explanation for why I am killing the fallen and hive, not just from dinklebot in the background (which is easy to miss if you're dicking around with friends), but from the Mentors (who so far just stand by a table all day), or better, one of the Archons. What do you guys think?

  • The Last Array felt like the first real chunk of story. Considering the other earlier chapters were tutorial till you learn how to ride your sparrow. Chapter 1: Basic Tutorial. Chapter 2: Let's see if you remembered everything from Chapter 1 add Ghost Environment Interactions and Dark Zones to that list. Chapter 3: Same again and now for the Sparrow And I picked up on Rasputian being a 'warmind' or a planetary wide A.I Hopefully the storytelling is not just restricted to the campaign mode and whatever Story DLC is released later. We will now live in a persistent world and I may not always want to go to Public Events or on Raids every time I log in Mission Direction maybe could be improved slightly in one or two places. I don't think I threw grenades until chapter 3 but I was introduced to the Guardian Skill Tree in chapter 1 and told to apply the skill to the grenades and not told how to use it. I also spent 45 minutes on the moon and got myself lost after the lost Guardian forward camp trying to locate the next waypoint. But I was able to cope and mission direction is a bit different to story and lore. Of course your going to struggle with Destiny's story if you apply Halo 'context' to random words and phrases like ghost and hunter that also occur in destiny and wonder why Destiny does not apply 'Halo context' for these words when telling the Story of Destiny. I mean why was he expecting to play slow moving character with a Fuel Rod Cannon fused to their right arm and a 9 foot shield able to deflect bullets and plasma in the left.
