well, for starters, there is only one AR in the game, and that is Auto-Rifles, which is a weapon class, all of which are "rapid fire".
Placing that little tid-bit aside, we are left with the argument that the Auto-Rifle is OP. Well, I would tend to agree with that assessment, though not with nearly as much zeal and gusto as it would seem a good group of others have.
The AR is an amazing close-mid range weapon, especially the Shingen-C, and particularly the Shingen-C with certain bonuses (like reduction to recoil). However, the Scout rifle is extremely effective for mid-long range, and can drop almost anyone (at least in the beta) with 4 or less rounds (depending on headshots). Every weapon has it's strong points, but in PvP, the AR and Scout reigned supreme, with the other two primary weapons taking a back seat, due to poor performance in PvP (though fun to use in PvE)
So, in short, I can see how some could view the AR as OP, but I would argue that the Hand Cannon and the Pulse Rifle were actually UP. That said, ALL this information is based off a beta, where level 8 was the cap. I have no doubt that in higher level versions of these guns, they only get better. Not to mention Bungie could probably easily adjust the stats of weapons if they see the need.
