I'm really looking forward to destiny. The story and world are just so unique and interesting its style and setting are just so mysterious. But the big question is "will it last?". I was really looking forward to titanfall and my hopes were torn to shreds and then burnt before being flushed down the toilet... I don't want destiny to be like titanfall.

Titanfall fell off due to not enough content, no non titan modes, and too many bots. Destiny will always be adding new stuff and have something to do apparently, and DLC will actually push this game forward rather than just add maps and little things. Only time will tell though

I think i'll love it and play it over and over just like i do with borderlands 2 ENDLESS FUN

3 RepliesEdited by Tekn0z: 8/20/2014 3:55:14 PMI certainly think that Destiny is hyped a lot more than it should be. I remember how much Borderlands 2 was hyped and only to find how bad the FOV was on the consoles that the game is only worth playing on a PC. I *really* hope this isn't the case with Destiny (I didn't get a chance to play the beta). Other than that, there isn't much "variety" beyond just shooting creatures and getting loot. Sure, I love loot and shoot games but if you are looking for more variety like solving puzzles that use/modify the environment, talking to a lot of people beyond just for buying stuff and other things like a traditional RPG that aspect from what I have heard is missing. Correct me if I'm wrong. I would, for instance, love to see quests like escorting a ship/vessel through a trouble zone that requires team cooperation, or stuff like optional missions that take place in the air using hawk fighters (Starhawk style!) and more bizarre looking enemies than just bipedal creatures/robots. Basically, something more than just go to area, kill everyone there kinda quests. Having said all this, I'm still looking forward to Destiny. I just hope it brings in at least some of the elements I mentioned.

2 RepliesYeah! Just like Oreos are a fad!

1 ReplyWas Titan fall that bad? I've read many good thing about it but I guess it's really up to you. What have you played in the past that you consider the staple standard to compare Destiny to?
-
1 ReplyWell Destiny has a lot more than only PvP so by default it's gonna last longer than Titanfall :p

3 RepliesThese guys are soooo focused on the story and lore of the game. Even the race origin stories are still in the mystery stages. Bungie has a 10 year plan for this game. I know TF has a sequel coming. Do they have long term plans? We also have to consider the rich legacy that is Halo. Plus their original FPS, Marathon. To my knowledge that was pre-Doom FPS. Haven't heard much out of them, or the creators of Duke Nukem 3D. Bungie is one of the only original FPS companies to have a super strong and successful following well out of the mid 90's. they're focusing on a sustainable business. Safe to say this will be more of a life style then a fad. Probably the successor to Blizzard's World of Warcraft in terms of the next big thing in gaming. As for Titanfall, there will be a following, but it will stand in the shadow that is Destiny.

Every game is a fad in a way... But I would expect Destiny to have a long life.

4 RepliesI've been playing world of Warcraft since 2004 ....

2 RepliesTitanfall fell into the CoD trap. Thee is a reason why they release a new one every frickin' year. Once the novelty wears off---and the ways of fighting on a map stop evolving---there's not a lot to hold your attention. What Titanfall should have done was not just release a disjointed set of map packs, but instead integrate them into an on-going storyline.

It will be and it won't be. The story will be completed quickly and your main goal will be end game content. The PvP to me won't last long. In my opinion the only way this game will have longevity is if they release real expansion packs with more end game content and new planets and raids. It needs to lean more towards a real MMO in that way if it wants to survive a year or more. My opinion.

Edited by SkilPhil: 8/20/2014 12:40:12 PMIf FAD is an acronym for 'F***ing Amazing, Dude.' Then yes, yes it is. In all honesty though, when was the last time we had a quality FPS with a huge player base that wasn't a sequel? I think this will last longer than most competitive FPS's released in the past few years.

Considering how similar the Story mode, Explore mode and Strike mode are for gameplay, plus Strike mode is just a repeat of itself at the higher levels they add, do you really think the majority of players, once they discover how the game plays will be sticking around? Most people bought this game on the hype. They aren't visiting Facebook, Twitter or here to learn lots about the game as they are just too busy with their lives. You are questioning will it last. Did you play the beta? What was your gut feel? Mine was the gameplay will get boring fast. Good for about 30 hours of play. Nothing wrong with that as lots of $60 games are shorter than that. However I don't feel the way it currently is with gameplay that it will keep me coming back for further purchases. Bungie already said the first expansion will be running over the same territory so you can interact with players that don't have the expansion. To me, it means more of the same. By then I will have other games available that are more interesting to me. My opinion is based on the idea that so many people complain about how repetitive and non changing shooter franchises are. Same old, same old. First and foremost, Destiny is a shooter with mmo elements. The PvP is pvp. Nothing really new there. The open shared world is new for the story/campaign side of a shooter but it is extremely repetitive gameplay where the focus is on getting loot to get to an event than Bungie designed so most people will not be able to find the time to play it. Diablo 3 is about getting loot. Story is incidental. Diablo isn't a billion dollar game but people like going for the loot and evidently there are enough of them to be up to version 3. Question for Destiny is how many will people will like doing that for the long run? You interested in going for the loot for 10 years with the current structure for gameplay?

Destiny, im my opinion is no way a fad. I enjoyed every minute playing the beta ans i've never been as hyper about a game as Destiny.

Edited by A Saturnalia: 8/15/2014 12:45:29 AMI'm going to guess that it will go like this, first week/two weeks 100% of the players will play it. Month in 80%, 2 months 50%, 3 months 40%, 6 months 25%, a year 10%, 2 years 3%. Hell, it might even go faster.
2weeks 90% of day one players will be done. This is 2014 and 30 fps non ranked multiplayer pvp isn't going to sustain the game. The pve content will take a causal player 2 weeks to complete leaving only raids, which due to lack of matchmaking and the difficulty in making new friends thanks to horrible communication tools most players will never bother with. Dance parties in the tower aren't compelling enough to warrant putting the disc in the tray once you clear the game and realise the pvp is worse than the now ancient halo 2.
Also this.

89 RepliesYes I believe it is. The pvp was terrible, and I fear the pve will only take about 50 hours max to complete. With so many better pvp games out there this will be a flash in the pan.

I looked up FAD in my dictionary, and it said...
Frequently ADdictive
In all fairness to Bungie, based on past history; there games tend to provide many hours of fun, and like a good book, help your imagination further/wonder about the lore in which the game is set.

I think destiny will last a long time. The Destiny beta sold me on the game, where as If I had played the titan-fall beta I would have never bought it. Titan-fall is garbage. Destiny is a revolutionary game, the first of its kind, and I think that it will last untill the sequel comes out, and maybe even after that!
-
7 RepliesEdited by Zow: 8/18/2014 6:55:05 AMMan I'm sorry you couldn't tell titanfall was going to be garbage just from watching the trailers.
-
Yes, yes it is.
-
Well, look at Bungie's other titles, are they in your opinion, just a fad? Halo is still going strong last I checked. I figure Destiny will be too, as long as they continue with interesting content.
-
1 ReplyIn MMOs *cough* er.... Shared world shooters, content and to a certain extent, story matters. Titanfall can only expand with different maps, and try to expound on a story that seems nonexistent. Destiny has a foundation of storytelling and the ability to explore. It also has loot. Those things already give it a leg up on longevity. However once people reach endgame its up to Bungie to keep the content flowing and to keep players engaged. Sometimes however you might get tired of the game anyway, but Destiny seems like a game that you can sit for hours or for 20min and get something done.
